CHAPTER 13

CHAPTER 13

THE FALL OF VICTORIA LAURENT

For the first time in her life…

Victoria Laurent felt fear.

Not the fear of losing money.

Not the fear of losing power.

Not the fear of losing a business deal.

Those things could be rebuilt.

Money could return.

Influence could return.

A reputation could sometimes be repaired.

But this was different.

This was the moment she realized she had lost the one thing she always believed she controlled.

The game.

The warehouse was surrounded.

Blackwood security teams moved through every corner.

Police sirens echoed in the distance.

Reporters were already gathering outside.

The entire city was about to witness the fall of one of Chicago's most powerful women.

Victoria stood frozen.

Her plan had collapsed.

Everything she built for months had disappeared in minutes.

She looked at Adrian.

Then Elena.

Then the empty space where Michael had escaped.

"You planned this."

Her voice was quiet.

Adrian looked at her.

"Yes."

Victoria laughed bitterly.

"Of course you did."

A pause.

"Adrian Blackwood never loses."

Adrian's expression remained cold.

"No."

He looked at Elena.

"I almost lost everything because I stopped trusting the person who mattered most."

Those words hurt Victoria more than any accusation.

Because that was the truth.

She had spent years studying Adrian.

His business.

His power.

His weaknesses.

But she never understood the most important thing.

Adrian's strength was never his empire.

It was Elena.

Security moved toward Victoria.

She didn't resist.

Not yet.

Instead, she looked at Elena.

"You won."

Elena remained silent.

Victoria smiled.

"Do you know what I hate most about you?"

Elena looked at her.

"You think you are better than everyone."

"No."

Elena answered.

"I just know I don't have to destroy people to feel important."

Victoria's smile disappeared.

Because those words exposed everything.

For years, Victoria believed the world belonged to people willing to fight.

People willing to manipulate.

People willing to sacrifice others.

She thought kindness was weakness.

But Elena had proven the opposite.

Kindness had earned loyalty.

Honesty had earned love.

And patience had earned victory.

"Take her."

Adrian ordered.

Two security officers stepped forward.

But Victoria suddenly laughed.

A strange laugh.

A desperate one.

"You think this ends with me?"

Adrian looked at her.

"What do you mean?"

Victoria stared at him.

"You still don't understand."

She looked toward Elena.

"Michael was never the only person interested in her."

Adrian's expression changed.

"What are you talking about?"

Victoria smiled.

"Ask your wife."

Everyone looked at Elena.

Her face changed.

Because she knew exactly what Victoria meant.

Adrian noticed.

Again.

The same fear.

The same hesitation.

The same hidden truth.

"Elena."

His voice softened.

"What is she talking about?"

Elena looked at Ethan.

Then at Adrian.

Before she could answer…

A sound interrupted them.

A phone ringing.

Marcus picked up the device.

His expression changed immediately.

"Boss."

"What?"

Marcus handed him the phone.

A voice came through.

Distorted.

Unknown.

"Adrian Blackwood."

Everyone became silent.

"Your enemies are not finished."

Adrian's eyes became cold.

"Who are you?"

The voice laughed.

"Someone who knew Elena before you did."

The call ended.

Victoria smiled.

Even while losing.

Even while being taken away.

She smiled.

Because she knew one thing.

She had damaged Adrian's trust once.

And someone else was about to do it again.

But this time…

Adrian didn't look at Elena with doubt.

He looked at her with understanding.

After Victoria was taken away, Adrian returned to the mansion with Elena.

The entire city was waiting.

News channels were reporting.

Companies were reacting.

But inside the Blackwood mansion…

There was only silence.

Ethan was finally safe.

He slept peacefully.

Elena sat beside him.

Watching him.

Adrian stood at the door.

For a moment, he simply watched his family.

Then he walked closer.

"I am sorry."

Elena looked up.

"For what?"

"For every moment you felt alone."

She looked away.

"Adrian..."

"No."

He sat beside her.

"I spent my life protecting people with power."

A pause.

"But I failed to protect the person who needed me most."

Elena's eyes softened.

"You came back."

He looked at her.

"Always."

For a moment, everything was quiet.

Then Adrian asked:

"Who was he?"

Elena knew.

The question she had been avoiding.

"The voice."

She took a breath.

"His name is Alexander Carter."

Adrian frowned.

"Carter?"

She nodded.

"My father's older brother."

The truth finally began to surface.

"Everyone thought he disappeared years ago."

Elena explained.

"But he didn't."

Alexander Carter was the real architect behind the Carter family's hidden power.

Not her father.

Not Michael.

Not Victoria.

Him.

"He believed my father betrayed the family."

Elena whispered.

"He blamed me for his downfall."

Adrian listened carefully.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Elena closed her eyes.

"Because I thought he was gone."

A pause.

"And because he made me promise never to speak his name."

Adrian's expression darkened.

"What did he do?"

Elena looked at him.

"He destroyed my childhood."

The words were barely audible.

She revealed the truth.

After her father's death, Alexander tried to take control of everything.

He used fear.

Threats.

Manipulation.

He wanted Elena to become like him.

Cold.

Powerful.

Ruthless.

"But I escaped."

She whispered.

"I chose another life."

Adrian took her hand.

"And then you chose me."

She nodded.

But before they could continue…

Marcus rushed into the room.

"Boss."

Adrian stood.

"What?"

Marcus held a tablet.

"We found Michael."

Everyone froze.

"Where?"

Marcus looked at Elena.

"Near the old Carter estate."

Adrian immediately understood.

The final battle was not over.

Victoria had fallen.

Michael had escaped.

But the person behind everything…

Was still free.

That night, Victoria Laurent sat inside a prison cell.

For the first time, she had nothing.

No money.

No influence.

No allies.

A guard placed a newspaper on her table.

The headline:

VICTORIA LAURENT EXPOSED — BLACKWOOD FAMILY SURVIVES

She stared at the picture.

Adrian.

Elena.

Ethan.

Together.

Happy.

A tear almost appeared.

Almost.

But pride stopped it.

"I lost because I wanted what she had."

She whispered.

A quiet voice answered from the corner.

"No."

Victoria looked up.

A mysterious figure stood in the shadows.

"You lost because you underestimated her."

Victoria froze.

"Who are you?"

The figure smiled.

"Someone who wants the same thing you wanted."

The smile disappeared.

"To destroy Adrian Blackwood."

And somewhere far away…

The final enemy was preparing.

May you like

Because Victoria Laurent was only the beginning.
