CHAPTER 6

CHAPTER 6

THE ENEMY INSIDE THE HOUSE

The Blackwood mansion had survived many battles.

Business wars.

Political attacks.

Enemies who wanted Adrian Blackwood destroyed.

But none of those threats frightened Adrian as much as one simple possibility.

An enemy inside his own home.

Because outside enemies were easy.

They announced themselves.

They attacked openly.

They showed their faces.

But a person standing beside you…

A person smiling at your family…

A person waiting patiently for the right moment to betray you…

That was the most dangerous enemy of all.

After the incident with Victoria Laurent, Adrian increased security around the mansion.

New cameras.

New access codes.

New background checks.

Nobody entered without approval.

Nobody moved without being noticed.

But Adrian still felt something was wrong.

The stolen archive file was not random.

Whoever broke into the mansion knew exactly where to look.

They knew exactly what information mattered.

And that meant one thing.

Someone had helped them.

Marcus stood inside Adrian's office, looking at the security reports.

"We checked every employee."

Adrian looked out the window.

"And?"

"Everyone passed."

Adrian turned.

"Everyone?"

Marcus nodded.

"Nobody has suspicious financial activity."

"Nobody contacted Victoria?"

"No evidence."

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

"Then we are missing something."

Marcus knew that tone.

Adrian was not searching anymore.

He was hunting.

"When you find the person..."

Marcus paused.

"What will you do?"

Adrian looked at him.

"Depends."

"On what?"

"Whether they hurt my family because they were afraid..."

A pause.

"Or because they wanted to."

Meanwhile, Elena was beginning to notice changes.

The mansion felt tense.

The staff walked carefully.

Conversations stopped whenever Adrian entered a room.

She hated that.

Not because she cared about the employees.

Because she knew Adrian.

She knew what happened when someone threatened what he loved.

He became dangerous.

That evening, Elena found him in his office.

Again.

Surrounded by documents.

Again.

Searching for enemies.

"Adrian."

He looked up.

She walked closer.

"You haven't slept."

"I'm fine."

She smiled slightly.

"You always say that when you are not."

He looked at her.

For a moment, the powerful billionaire disappeared.

Only her husband remained.

"I'm afraid."

The honesty surprised her.

"Of what?"

He looked at her stomach.

At their unborn child.

"Of losing everything."

Elena sat beside him.

"You won't."

"You don't know that."

"Yes, I do."

He looked at her.

"How?"

"Because you are not the same man you were before."

A pause.

"You used to protect your empire."

She held his hand.

"Now you protect your family."

But neither of them knew…

Someone was listening.

In the hallway, hidden behind the closed door…

A man lowered his head.

He had worked for the Blackwoods for twelve years.

He knew Adrian's habits.

His weaknesses.

His schedule.

His security.

His family.

His name was Thomas Reed.

The head of household management.

A man Adrian trusted.

A man everyone believed was loyal.

Thomas walked away quietly.

His face showed no emotion.

He entered a small room at the back of the mansion.

Locked the door.

Then removed a second phone hidden inside his jacket.

A message was waiting.

DID YOU FIND THE FILE?

Thomas stared at the screen.

His fingers hesitated.

Then he typed.

YES.

Another message appeared.

AND THE GIRL?

Thomas looked toward the hallway.

Toward Elena's room.

Then answered:

SHE DOESN'T KNOW THE TRUTH.

The next morning, Elena woke up feeling sick.

Adrian immediately noticed.

"You are pale."

"I'm okay."

He frowned.

"You said that yesterday."

She smiled.

"Because I am."

But before he could respond, the doctor arrived.

A routine pregnancy check.

Everything appeared normal.

Until the doctor looked confused.

"Mrs. Blackwood..."

Elena looked up.

"Yes?"

The doctor checked the file.

"There is something strange."

Adrian immediately became alert.

"What?"

"The medical records we received don't match."

Silence.

"What do you mean?"

The doctor looked at the papers.

"These records show that Mrs. Blackwood had a previous pregnancy complication."

Elena froze.

"What?"

Adrian looked at her.

"Did you know about this?"

She shook her head.

"No."

The room became silent.

Someone had changed her medical records.

Someone had access.

Someone wanted Adrian to believe Elena had hidden something important.

After the doctor left, Adrian stood still.

Elena watched him carefully.

"Adrian?"

He looked at the papers.

Not at her.

And that hurt.

Only for a second.

But she noticed.

"Do you believe me?"

The question was quiet.

Adrian immediately looked up.

"Of course."

But there was hesitation.

Tiny.

Almost invisible.

But Elena saw it.

And that scared her more than anger.

"I didn't know about those records."

"I know."

"Then why do you look like you are trying to understand whether I'm lying?"

His expression changed.

"Elena..."

She stepped back.

"No."

A tear appeared.

"I spent months proving I wasn't using you."

A pause.

"And now someone is making you question me again."

Adrian regretted it immediately.

He reached for her.

She stepped away.

"I need some time."

Then she left.

That night, Adrian sat alone.

The papers were still on his desk.

Everything pointed toward one possibility.

Someone was trying to destroy Elena.

But why?

And why use her past?

Marcus entered.

"We found something."

Adrian looked up.

"What?"

"The medical file was accessed from inside the mansion."

Adrian stood.

"Who?"

Marcus placed a name on the table.

Adrian stared.

"No."

Because the person responsible was someone he never expected.

Someone who had been beside his family for years.

Someone who had watched Elena suffer.

Someone who knew exactly where to hurt them.

Thomas Reed.

Adrian felt something cold move through him.

"Bring him here."

Marcus hesitated.

"Alive?"

Adrian looked at him.

"Yes."

A pause.

"I want answers."

But before they could reach Thomas…

He was already gone.

His room was empty.

His phone was missing.

And on the table…

Was a single envelope.

Adrian opened it.

Inside was one photograph.

Elena.

Standing outside a hospital years ago.

Before she met Adrian.

Before the Blackwood name.

On the back of the photograph were six words.

YOU NEVER KNEW WHO YOU MARRIED.

For the first time in years…

Adrian Blackwood felt something close to fear.

Not because of an enemy.

Because of a question.

A question he never wanted to ask.

Who was Elena Carter before she became his wife?

Across the city, Thomas entered a waiting car.

Victoria Laurent sat inside.

She smiled.

"You did well."

Thomas looked away.

"I don't like hurting them."

Victoria laughed.

"Then you shouldn't have chosen money over loyalty."

Thomas remained silent.

Victoria looked out the window.

"Now the real game begins."

She held the stolen file.

The file that contained Elena's deepest secret.

The truth about the woman behind the maid uniform.

"Adrian Blackwood thinks love makes him stronger."

Victoria whispered.

"I will prove it makes him weak."

And inside the Blackwood mansion…

A marriage built on trust was beginning to crack.

Not because Adrian stopped loving Elena.

But because someone was forcing him to question the one thing he believed was unbreakable.

May you like

Her truth.
