Chapter 12

The Final Hunt

A hunted person has two choices.

Run.

Or turn around and face the hunter.

For twenty years, the Moretti family had been running.

Running from the murder.

Running from the secrets.

Running from the truth.

But now...

There was nowhere left to run.

Because the person who destroyed them was no longer hiding.

Victor Hale wanted them afraid.

He wanted Alessandro trapped.

He wanted Luca drowning in guilt.

He wanted Isabella questioning whether she belonged.

He wanted Clara blaming herself.

And most importantly...

He wanted the Moretti family divided.

But Victor had made one mistake.

He misunderstood what family meant.

The moment Alessandro placed all the pieces together, he realized something.

The secrets did not make them weak.

The secrets were what Victor used to separate them.

And now...

They knew everything.

Inside the Moretti mansion's war room, everyone gathered.

Not as enemies.

Not as strangers.

As survivors.

Detective Reynolds placed photographs and documents across the table.

"Victor Hale has been planning this for years."

A photograph appeared.

Victor with Marco Bellini.

Another.

Victor meeting Vanessa.

Another.

Victor transferring money through hidden accounts.

"He didn't create chaos."

The detective explained.

"He waited for chaos."

Alessandro looked at the documents.

"He knew the family would destroy itself."

Luca clenched his fist.

"He used my anger."

Isabella looked at him.

"No."

Everyone turned.

She spoke calmly.

"He didn't create your anger."

A pause.

"He only found your wound."

The words affected Luca more than any accusation.

Because they were true.

For twenty years, Luca had believed his pain was proof that he was right.

Now he realized...

His pain had been the chain Victor used to control him.

Then Clara noticed something.

A document.

A small detail.

"Wait."

Everyone looked at her.

She pointed to a transfer record.

"Victor didn't just move money."

"What do you mean?"

"He moved ownership."

Detective Reynolds examined it.

His expression changed.

"He transferred controlling shares."

Alessandro frowned.

"To whom?"

The detective looked at the final line.

A company name.

Bellini Heritage Group.

The room became silent.

Marco Bellini.

The man who was supposed to be dead.

The man who betrayed Matteo.

The man who started everything.

"He never disappeared."

Luca whispered.

"No."

Alessandro replied.

"He rebuilt himself."

Victor Hale was not trying to steal the Moretti empire.

He was trying to merge it with the empire he secretly built.

The enemy had not been outside the family.

He had been waiting for the family to collapse.

Suddenly...

Emma walked into the room.

Everyone immediately stopped talking.

She looked at the serious faces.

"Are you finding the bad man?"

Alessandro smiled gently.

"Yes."

"Are you going to leave?"

The question surprised him.

"No."

Emma looked at Luca.

"Are you leaving too?"

Luca looked away.

A painful expression crossed his face.

"I don't know."

Emma walked closer.

Then held his hand.

"Families don't disappear."

A simple sentence.

But Luca had waited twenty years to hear something like it.

Meanwhile...

Vanessa Cole was running.

For the first time in her life...

She had no plan.

No perfect image.

No powerful man protecting her.

She sat inside a hidden apartment, staring at her reflection.

The woman looking back was no longer the elegant socialite everyone admired.

She was a woman who had lost everything chasing something that was never hers.

Her phone rang.

Victor.

She answered immediately.

"You lied to me."

Victor's voice remained calm.

"I told you I would make you powerful."

"You used me."

"No."

A pause.

"You wanted power before you met me."

Vanessa went silent.

Because she hated that he was right.

"What happens now?"

She asked.

Victor smiled.

"Now you disappear."

The call ended.

That was when Vanessa understood.

She had never been a partner.

She had been a tool.

At the same time...

Alessandro received a location.

A warehouse near the old harbor.

The message contained only one sentence.

COME ALONE IF YOU WANT THE TRUTH.

Everyone knew it was a trap.

"You can't go alone."

Luca said.

Alessandro looked at him.

"Twenty years ago, you went alone."

The words hurt.

But Luca understood.

"I won't let you make the same mistake."

For the first time...

The brothers stood together.

The plan was simple.

Alessandro would enter.

Security would surround the area.

Detective Reynolds would monitor communications.

Luca would stay close.

But they all knew.

Victor was smarter than that.

The warehouse was empty when Alessandro entered.

Too empty.

A single light hung from the ceiling.

A table sat in the center.

On it...

An old photograph.

Matteo Moretti.

Alessandro picked it up.

Then heard applause.

Slow.

Mocking.

Victor Hale stepped from the shadows.

"Beautiful, isn't it?"

Alessandro turned.

"You."

Victor smiled.

"Twenty years."

"You destroyed my family."

Victor laughed.

"No."

He walked closer.

"I revealed your family."

Alessandro stared at him.

"You think you won."

Victor continued.

"But look at you."

"Your company is falling."

"Your reputation is damaged."

"Your family is fighting."

A smile appeared.

"I didn't destroy the Morettis."

"I simply showed the world who they really are."

Then another person stepped forward.

Alessandro's eyes narrowed.

Marco Bellini.

Alive.

Older.

But unmistakable.

Luca entered behind Alessandro.

The moment he saw Marco...

Twenty years of pain returned.

"You."

Marco smiled.

"My boy."

Luca froze.

Nobody had called him that since childhood.

"You ruined my life."

Marco shook his head.

"No."

"I gave you what you wanted."

Luca's expression changed.

"What?"

Marco smiled.

"The chance to become the heir."

The words were poison.

Because Luca finally understood.

Marco didn't hate him.

He never cared enough to hate him.

He simply used him.

Then the warehouse doors slammed shut.

Victor stepped back.

"You wanted the truth."

He looked at Alessandro.

"Now you have it."

The lights turned red.

An alarm began.

"Unfortunately..."

Victor smiled.

"Truth has a price."

The building started filling with smoke.

Everyone realized the same thing.

Victor didn't bring them there to confess.

May you like

He brought them there to finish what he started twenty years ago.
