Chapter 7

Chapter 7
The Little Girl Who Knew the Truth
Adults believe they understand the world.
They believe children are too young to notice.
Too innocent to understand.
Too small to remember.
But adults forget something important.
Children do not see the masks people wear.
They see what is underneath.
And Emma...
Had always seen more than anyone realized.
The abandoned Moretti estate was silent.
Too silent.
Alessandro stood in the center of the old dining hall, staring at the document Luca had placed on the table.
A document with Emma's name.
A document that could change the future of the Moretti empire forever.
"What is this?"
Alessandro asked.
Luca stood near the fireplace.
The same fireplace where he had once sat as a child.
The same room where he had eaten dinner with a family that no longer remembered him.
"You already know."
Luca smiled.
"No."
Alessandro picked up the paper.
"I want to hear you say it."
Luca stepped closer.
"Your father created a second inheritance agreement."
A pause.
"One that was never revealed."
Alessandro read the first page.
His eyes narrowed.
"This is impossible."
"No."
Luca replied.
"It was hidden."
The agreement stated that if Luca Moretti returned and had a legitimate descendant, that descendant would hold a claim to the original Moretti family assets.
Not the company.
Not the public empire.
The private fortune.
The foundation.
The old family properties.
Everything Matteo Moretti had built before the corporation existed.
Alessandro looked at Emma.
She was sitting quietly in a chair.
Holding her stuffed rabbit.
Listening.
"Why show me this?"
Alessandro asked.
Luca smiled.
"Because I want you to understand."
"Understand what?"
"That you were never the only heir."
The words were meant to hurt.
And they did.
But not in the way Luca expected.
Alessandro looked at Emma.
Not the documents.
Not the money.
Not the inheritance.
Emma.
"She is not a weapon."
His voice was cold.
"She is not a claim."
"She is not a way for you to win."
For the first time, Luca's expression changed.
Only slightly.
But Alessandro noticed.
Because he had spent his entire life studying people.
"You sound like Father."
Luca whispered.
Alessandro looked at him.
"Maybe Father was right."
The sentence cut deeper than anger.
Because Luca didn't hate Alessandro's strength.
He hated the fact that Alessandro had become everything their father wanted.
Suddenly...
Emma spoke.
"Are you brothers?"
Both men looked at her.
The question was simple.
But it carried more weight than any argument.
Luca crouched down.
"Yes."
Emma tilted her head.
"Then why are you fighting?"
Neither man answered.
Because adults had complicated reasons.
Children did not accept complicated reasons.
"Families are supposed to help each other."
Emma continued.
"When people are sad, they say sorry."
Luca looked away.
For a moment...
He looked like the little boy he once was.
Not the man who kidnapped her.
Not the man who wanted revenge.
Just a child who had spent years believing nobody loved him.
Then his phone rang.
The moment shattered.
He answered.
"What?"
Vanessa's voice came through.
"Luca, we have a problem."
He walked away.
Alessandro watched him.
Then looked at Emma.
"Are you hurt?"
She shook her head.
"No."
"Did he scare you?"
Emma thought.
"No."
Alessandro frowned.
"Why?"
She looked toward Luca.
"Because he cries when nobody sees."
The answer stunned him.
Children noticed pain adults ignored.
Back in the mansion...
Clara sat with the security team, desperately waiting for news.
Every minute felt like an hour.
Then the door opened.
A detective entered.
"We found something."
Clara stood immediately.
"What?"
The detective placed a file on the table.
"Evidence from Luca's old records."
Inside were documents from twenty years earlier.
Medical reports.
Private messages.
Bank transfers.
And one name appeared repeatedly.
Matteo Moretti's former business partner.
Victor Hale.
"Who is he?"
Clara whispered.
The detective answered.
"Someone who disappeared after Matteo Moretti's death."
Clara's face changed.
Because she remembered him.
"He was there."
"What?"
"The night Matteo died."
The detective looked at her.
"Are you sure?"
Clara nodded slowly.
"He was arguing with Luca."
The room became silent.
Meanwhile, at the abandoned estate...
Luca returned from the phone call.
But Alessandro immediately noticed something.
Fear.
Real fear.
"What happened?"
Luca ignored him.
"We have to leave."
Alessandro didn't move.
"Why?"
Luca looked toward Emma.
"Because Vanessa made a mistake."
A cold feeling passed through Alessandro.
"What kind of mistake?"
Luca's jaw tightened.
"She contacted someone."
"Who?"
A pause.
Then:
"Victor Hale."
Everything stopped.
Alessandro knew that name.
The man connected to his father's murder.
The man everyone thought disappeared.
"You work with him?"
Alessandro asked.
Luca's silence answered.
The disappointment on Alessandro's face was worse than anger.
"You didn't come back for revenge."
"You came back because someone was controlling you."
Luca's expression darkened.
"Don't pretend you understand."
"No."
Alessandro stepped forward.
"I understand more than you think."
He looked at him.
"You spent twenty years blaming me."
"You spent twenty years believing I stole your life."
"But someone else was using your pain."
For the first time...
Luca looked uncertain.
Because deep down...
He knew Alessandro might be right.
Then a loud explosion shook the building.
The windows shattered.
The lights went out.
Emma screamed.
Alessandro moved instantly.
He grabbed Emma and covered her.
Luca stood frozen.
Because the explosion wasn't meant to kill Alessandro.
It wasn't meant to destroy the estate.
It was meant to send a message.
On the floor near the entrance...
A burning envelope lay among broken glass.
Alessandro picked it up.
Inside was one photograph.
A photograph of Matteo Moretti.
Taken on the night he died.
On the back was a message.
Five words.
ASK YOUR BROTHER WHAT HE SAW.
Alessandro slowly looked at Luca.
Because suddenly...
The question was no longer whether Luca was guilty.
The question was:
What secret had Luca been hiding for twenty years?
Emma quietly held Alessandro's hand.
"Uncle..."
"Yes?"
"That man isn't the bad one."
Alessandro looked at her.
"Who?"
Emma pointed at the photograph.
"The man behind him."
Everyone froze.
Because in the picture...
Standing behind Matteo Moretti on the night of his assassination...
Was not Luca.
Not a stranger.
Not an enemy.
May you like
It was someone who was supposed to be dead.
