Chapter 3

Chapter 3
The Secret Behind Emmaâs Birth
Secrets do not disappear.
They wait.
They hide beneath years of silence.
They hide inside locked drawers.
They hide behind promises people were forced to make.
And sometimes...
They hide inside the eyes of a child.
The night Luca Moretti returned, nobody in the mansion slept.
Not Alessandro.
Not me.
Not even the security team.
Because for the first time in years, the walls of the Moretti mansion were not protecting the family.
They were protecting them from the family.
At six in the morning, Alessandro called me into his private office.
The room had always intimidated me.
Dark wooden shelves.
Ancient paintings.
A massive desk that belonged to his grandfather.
Everything inside represented generations of power.
But that morning...
It looked different.
It looked like a place where someone had finally discovered the truth.
On the desk were photographs.
Documents.
Old records.
A single picture of two boys.
One was Alessandro.
The other was Luca.
Two children standing beside their father.
Two brothers.
One erased from history.
"Tell me everything."
Alessandro's voice was calm.
But I could see the anger beneath it.
Not the kind that exploded.
The dangerous kind.
The kind that waited.
I remained standing.
Because sitting in his office still felt wrong.
Even after everything.
Even after Emma had saved him.
I was still the maid.
And he was still Alessandro Moretti.
"You deserve the truth."
I looked at the photograph.
"But the truth will destroy the way you see your family."
He didn't look away.
"Good."
A pause.
"I've spent my entire life protecting a family that may not deserve protection."
I took a deep breath.
And for the first time in years...
I opened the door I had kept locked.
"My name wasn't always Clara."
Alessandro frowned.
"What?"
"Before I worked here, I was a personal assistant to your mother."
His expression changed.
"My mother?"
I nodded.
"She trusted very few people."
"Why would she trust you?"
"Because I found something."
"What?"
I looked at him.
"Luca."
The room became silent.
"Twenty years ago, everyone believed Luca was dead."
I continued.
"But he wasn't."
"Your father hid him."
"Why?"
I shook my head.
"I never knew the entire reason."
"Only that your father believed Luca was dangerous."
Alessandro stood.
"My father abandoned his own son?"
"No."
My voice softened.
"Your father was trying to protect you."
That was the first time I saw confusion on Alessandro's face.
"He loved Luca."
I continued.
"But he was afraid of what Luca had become."
The memories returned.
A young Luca.
Brilliant.
Charming.
Loved by everyone.
Then...
Angry.
Jealous.
Obsessed with proving he was better than Alessandro.
"Your father discovered Luca was secretly working with people who wanted control of the company."
"Investors."
"Enemies."
"People who believed Alessandro was too young to lead."
Alessandro looked at the documents.
"So my father erased him."
"No."
I swallowed.
"Luca erased himself."
Then came the question I knew would hurt.
"The night your father died..."
Alessandro froze.
"What about it?"
I looked down.
"I saw Luca."
The room became colder.
"You saw him?"
I nodded.
"He was outside the church."
"The night of the assassination."
Alessandro's face changed.
For years, he had believed his father's murder was committed by an outside enemy.
A rival family.
A business war.
Not his own blood.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
His voice broke slightly.
Because this was no longer about power.
It was about a son who had lost his father.
"I tried."
"And?"
"Your mother stopped me."
Alessandro stared.
"My mother knew?"
I nodded.
"She knew everything."
The truth was finally coming out.
And it was uglier than anyone expected.
"But there is something else."
Alessandro looked at me.
"What?"
I hesitated.
Because this was the part I feared most.
The part that connected me to the Moretti family forever.
"Your mother made me promise to protect someone."
"Who?"
I looked toward the hallway.
Toward where Emma was playing.
"Emma."
Alessandro went completely still.
"What does Emma have to do with this?"
I couldn't breathe.
The moment had arrived.
The secret I had carried for three years.
The secret that had shaped every decision I made.
"Emma's father was Luca Moretti."
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Alessandro stared at me.
"No."
I expected disbelief.
I expected anger.
Instead...
He looked devastated.
"You're saying my brother..."
"Yes."
The memories of that time flooded back.
I was twenty-two.
Young.
Naive.
Working for the Moretti family.
Luca had not yet become the man he was now.
He was charming.
Funny.
Kind.
At least...
That's what I believed.
When Luca disappeared, I discovered I was pregnant.
Emma was born months later.
I never told him.
Because before I could...
I learned the truth.
Luca wasn't missing.
He was hiding.
And the people looking for him weren't trying to bring him home.
They were trying to stop him.
"Why didn't you tell him about Emma?"
Alessandro asked quietly.
"Because your mother begged me."
"She said Luca was dangerous."
"She said if he knew about Emma, he would use her."
Alessandro looked away.
"And you believed her?"
I looked at him.
"I didn't have a choice."
Then his expression changed.
Because another thought appeared.
"If Luca is Emma's father..."
His voice became colder.
"Then he knows."
I nodded.
"He knows."
The realization hit him.
Luca had not returned because of the company.
Not only because of the company.
He had returned because of Emma.
That afternoon, Alessandro ordered a DNA test.
Not because he doubted me.
Because he needed proof.
Because the truth was too enormous.
Three days later...
The results arrived.
Alessandro opened the envelope himself.
I stood across from him.
Emma sat on the floor drawing.
Completely unaware that her life was about to change.
Alessandro read the report.
His hands tightened.
Then slowly...
He sat down.
"What does it say?"
I already knew.
But I needed to hear it.
He looked at Emma.
Then at me.
Then back at the paper.
"She's his daughter."
A pause.
"And she's my niece."
Emma looked up.
"Mr. Alessandro?"
He quickly wiped the emotion from his face.
"Yes?"
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
For the first time...
Alessandro Moretti had no powerful answer.
No calculated response.
No strategy.
Because in front of him was not a business problem.
Not a family war.
Not an enemy.
Just a little girl who had unknowingly brought the truth back into his life.
That evening...
Alessandro made a decision.
A decision that would change everything.
He would protect Emma.
Not because she carried Moretti blood.
Not because she might inherit billions.
But because she was a child who had spent her entire life hiding from a world that should have protected her.
But while Alessandro chose to protect Emma...
Someone else made a different choice.
Across the city, Vanessa Cole sat inside a private apartment.
Luca stood beside the window.
"You failed."
Vanessa clenched her fists.
"I didn't know the maid's daughter was connected."
Luca turned.
His eyes were cold.
"You should have."
"She is the reason everything can be taken from us."
Vanessa looked confused.
"Who is she?"
Luca smiled.
"The last piece of the Moretti inheritance."
Then he revealed the truth Vanessa had never known.
Emma wasn't just Luca's daughter.
She was the only person who could legally destroy Luca's claim to the empire.
Vanessa stared.
"What do we do?"
Luca looked toward the city lights.
A cruel smile appeared.
"We take the child."
Back at the mansion...
Emma slept peacefully.
Alessandro stood outside her bedroom door.
For the first time in his life...
He wasn't protecting an empire.
He was protecting a little girl.
And somewhere in the darkness...
May you like
A man who shared her blood was coming for her.
