CHAPTER 5 — THE CLOSET WITH THE FLOWER BOX

THE BILLIONAIRE’S HEIR THEY TRIED TO FAKE
CHAPTER 5 — THE CLOSET WITH THE FLOWER BOX
The closet had been locked for a reason.
Not because it held expensive dresses.
Not because it contained jewelry.
Not because Vanessa Cole wanted privacy.
It was locked because inside that closet was the beginning of a war.
A war that had started long before anyone knew there was an enemy.
Alessandro Moretti stood outside Vanessa's private suite, staring at the door.
The same door where everything changed.
The night of the engagement party, everyone believed the truth had been discovered when Emma pointed at the closet.
But now Alessandro understood something.
The closet was not where the lie ended.
It was where the lie began.
"Sir."
Marco Bellini stood behind him.
"You asked for the original security footage."
Alessandro turned.
"And?"
Marco handed him a tablet.
"We recovered deleted files."
Alessandro looked at the screen.
The hallway camera appeared.
The footage showed Vanessa entering her suite six weeks earlier.
Alone.
Carrying the flower-patterned box.
Alessandro watched silently.
Vanessa walked with confidence.
No fear.
No hesitation.
She knew exactly what she was doing.
Then something happened.
The camera zoomed.
A second person appeared.
A man.
Alessandro leaned closer.
"Who is that?"
Marco shook his head.
"Unknown."
The man entered Vanessa's room.
Twenty minutes later, he left.
But he was not carrying the box.
"He gave it to her."
Alessandro said.
Marco nodded.
"Yes."
"So the pregnancy lie was not Vanessa's idea alone."
"No."
The answer confirmed what Alessandro feared.
Someone had created Vanessa.
Someone had prepared her.
Someone had placed her exactly where they wanted her.
Across the mansion, Clara sat in the small staff room with Emma.
She watched the rain outside.
The same rain that fell the night Daniel died.
She hated rain.
Not because of the weather.
Because rain erased footprints.
Covered evidence.
Made people forget where someone had been.
Daniel used to say:
"People think storms hide things. They don't. They just reveal who is willing to look."
She never forgot that.
The door opened.
Alessandro entered.
Clara immediately stood.
"You found something."
It wasn't a question.
She could see it in his face.
"The box."
Clara's expression changed.
"Where?"
"Vanessa's closet."
A painful silence followed.
Alessandro studied her.
"You knew."
Clara looked down.
"Yes."
"How long?"
"Since the day I found it."
"And you said nothing."
Her eyes filled.
"I told you why."
"Because you were afraid."
"No."
She looked at him.
"Because I knew what would happen."
Alessandro frowned.
"What does that mean?"
Clara took a deep breath.
"When I found the box, I did not only find the fake pregnancy."
A pause.
"I found your name."
The room became silent.
"What?"
Clara walked to an old wooden cabinet.
She opened a drawer.
From underneath folded clothes, she removed a small envelope.
"I kept this because I didn't know who to trust."
Alessandro took it.
Inside was a document.
A delivery receipt.
The buyer name was hidden.
But the delivery location was clear.
Moretti Mansion.
Alessandro looked up.
"That doesn't prove anything."
"No."
Clara shook her head.
"But this does."
She pulled out another paper.
A handwritten note.
Only one sentence.
"Once the child is announced, Alessandro will have no choice but to protect her."
His expression changed.
Because the sentence revealed the real plan.
The baby was never about love.
The baby was about control.
"Who wrote this?"
Alessandro asked.
"I don't know."
"You expect me to believe that?"
Clara looked hurt.
"Alessandro, I spent three years cleaning rooms where people discussed my life like I wasn't there."
A pause.
"I learned something."
"What?"
"Powerful people never leave evidence unless they believe nobody beneath them can read it."
The words stayed with him.
Because they were true.
That afternoon, Alessandro confronted Vanessa.
She was staying in one of the guest rooms under security supervision.
Not a prisoner.
But no longer free to move through his home as she pleased.
When she saw him enter, she smiled.
"I wondered when you would come."
"You knew about the box."
Her smile faded.
Only slightly.
"What box?"
Alessandro placed the receipt on the table.
"The one your friend delivered."
For the first time, Vanessa became still.
"Friend?"
"The man who entered your room six weeks ago."
Silence.
Alessandro watched her carefully.
"You don't even know who he was, do you?"
That reaction was more revealing than an answer.
Vanessa looked away.
"You're making a mistake."
"No."
Alessandro stepped closer.
"I'm finally making the right one."
"What does that mean?"
"It means I'm done asking if you lied."
A pause.
"I know you did."
Vanessa's eyes hardened.
"Then what do you want?"
"The truth."
She laughed quietly.
"You think the truth will save you?"
"No."
Alessandro looked at her.
"It will save the people you tried to destroy."
For a moment, something unexpected appeared in Vanessa's face.
Regret.
Not guilt.
Fear.
Because Alessandro had finally found the right question.
Not:
Why did you fake the pregnancy?
But:
Who told you to do it?
Later that night, Alessandro returned to the closet.
Alone.
He opened the hidden cabinet again.
The flower box was gone.
Collected as evidence.
But something remained.
A small scratch on the wooden shelf.
Fresh.
He touched it.
Then noticed something behind the back panel.
A hidden compartment.
His heart slowed.
Someone had hidden something there.
He opened it.
Inside was an old photograph.
A photograph of three people.
His father.
His mother.
And a young woman Alessandro recognized.
Clara.
But that was impossible.
Clara looked exactly the same age she was now.
The photograph was taken fifteen years ago.
Alessandro stared.
Because the woman beside his parents...
was not just Clara.
She was holding a baby.
A baby with a small birth bracelet.
A bracelet that carried one name.
Emma Bennett.
Alessandro dropped the photograph.
The closet had not only exposed Vanessa's lie.
It had revealed a secret that could destroy everything he believed about Clara.
Because the question was no longer:
Why did Clara come to the Moretti mansion?
The question was:
Who was Clara Bennett before she became a maid?
May you like
And why had his dead mother protected her secret?
