Chapter 1 â The Waitress Accused

Chapter 1 â The Waitress Accused
The crystal champagne flute slipped from the waitress's trembling hands.
It struck the polished marble floor with a sharp crack.
Golden champagne splashed across the bride's white designer gown.
The entire ballroom fell silent.
For one horrifying second...
No one moved.
Then the bride let out a piercing scream.
"You idiot!"
Her voice echoed beneath the grand crystal chandeliers.
"You tried to poison me!"
More than three hundred guests turned toward the center of the ballroom.
The young waitress stood frozen, her face drained of color.
"I... I didn't..."
Before she could finish, the bride stepped forward and slapped her across the face.
The sound rang through the hall.
The waitress stumbled backward, nearly falling.
Tears filled her eyes.
"I swear... I didn't do anything."
The bride grabbed the front of her black uniform.
"Liar!"
"You think a cheap waitress can destroy my wedding and walk away?"
She yanked so hard that several buttons flew across the marble floor.
The waitress desperately tried to cover herself as embarrassed whispers spread through the crowd.
"Did she really poison the champagne?"
"I knew something was wrong."
"She looks guilty."
One accusation became ten.
Ten became a hundred.
No one wanted evidence.
They wanted someone to blame.
The Most Powerful Family in the Room
Standing only a few feet away was Adrian Sinclair, one of the youngest billionaires in the country.
Tonight was supposed to be the happiest night of his life.
His wedding.
His business partners had traveled from around the world.
Government officials.
Bank presidents.
International investors.
Everyone who mattered was present.
Yet Adrian couldn't move.
His eyes remained fixed on the shattered champagne glass.
Something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
Beside him, his bride, Vanessa Harrington, pointed furiously at the waitress.
"Security!"
"Arrest her immediately!"
Within seconds, six security guards surrounded the terrified young woman.
One grabbed her wrist.
Another reached for handcuffs.
The waitress cried harder.
"Please..."
"I've worked here for three years."
"I would never poison anyone."
The head of security remained expressionless.
"Tell it to the police."
An Unexpected Voice
"Stop."
The single word wasn't loud.
Yet every person in the ballroom heard it.
An elderly woman slowly stepped forward from the catering staff.
Her gray hair was neatly tied beneath a kitchen cap.
Her uniform was simple.
Her posture wasn't.
Her name tag read:
Margaret Ellis â Kitchen Supervisor
She looked directly at the security guards.
"She didn't do it."
Vanessa laughed coldly.
"And how would you know?"
Margaret answered calmly.
"Because she never touched your glass."
The ballroom erupted into murmurs.
Vanessa crossed her arms.
"Are you accusing me of lying?"
"I'm saying you're accusing the wrong person."
Vanessa's expression darkened.
"So now the entire kitchen staff is conspiring against me?"
Margaret didn't flinch.
"I've spent forty years serving families richer than yours."
"I know panic."
"I know accidents."
"And I know when someone is trying too hard to create a villain."
The guests exchanged uneasy glances.
Adrian watched quietly.
Margaret's confidence didn't resemble that of an ordinary kitchen supervisor.
The Poison
One of the wedding doctors knelt beside the broken glass.
He carefully dipped a testing strip into the remaining liquid.
Seconds later...
The strip turned dark blue.
His expression changed instantly.
"This champagne contains poison."
The room exploded into chaos.
Several guests backed away from the tables.
Others abandoned their drinks immediately.
Vanessa dramatically covered her mouth.
"Oh my God..."
"I almost drank it."
She pointed again at the waitress.
"Now do you believe me?"
The security guards tightened their grip.
The terrified waitress shook uncontrollably.
"My name is Lily."
"I have a daughter."
"I would neverâ"
She broke into tears.
"Please..."
"Believe me."
A Silent Groom
Adrian finally walked toward the shattered glass.
He crouched beside it.
The doctor handed him the laboratory strip.
"Highly toxic."
"If consumed..."
"It could have been fatal."
Vanessa rushed to his side.
"Adrian."
"We have to call the police."
"We have to make an example of her."
Instead of answering...
Adrian looked at Lily.
She wasn't defending herself anymore.
She simply cried quietly.
Not the tears of someone caught.
The tears of someone who had already realized no one intended to listen.
Something about her expression disturbed him.
He stood slowly.
"Has anyone reviewed the security cameras?"
Vanessa answered immediately.
"Why bother?"
"We caught her."
Adrian looked at her.
"We caught an accusation."
"Not the truth."
The Pressure Builds
The head chef hurried into the ballroom.
"Mr. Sinclair."
"The police are on their way."
Vanessa smiled.
"Perfect."
Lily suddenly fell to her knees.
"I'll lose everything."
"My daughter needs surgery."
"I can't go to prison."
Some guests rolled their eyes.
Others looked away.
One woman whispered,
"They always have a sad story."
Margaret stepped beside Lily and helped her stand.
"No one kneels."
"Not until the truth is known."
Vanessa's patience snapped.
"I'm done listening."
She pointed toward the exit.
"Take both of them."
The guards began moving forward.
Thenâ
Every light inside the ballroom suddenly went out.
Locked Inside
A loud metallic sound echoed through the building.
CLANG.
The massive ballroom doors automatically locked.
Several guests rushed toward them.
"They won't open!"
Emergency lights illuminated the hall in a dim blue glow.
Confused voices filled the room.
Then...
The enormous digital projection screen slowly descended from the ceiling.
Every guest looked up.
The master of ceremonies frowned.
"We didn't schedule a presentation."
The projector switched on by itself.
Static flickered across the screen.
Then a crystal-clear timestamp appeared.
7:18 PM
The footage showed Vanessa inside the bridal suite.
She looked around carefully.
Then opened a jeweled clutch purse.
From inside...
She removed a tiny glass vial filled with clear liquid.
The ballroom became deathly silent.
Vanessa's face turned white.
"Turn it off!"
No one moved.
The video continued.
Vanessa handed the vial to her maid of honor, Sophia Reynolds.
Sophia looked nervous.
"What if someone sees us?"
Vanessa smiled.
"They'll never suspect me."
The guests gasped.
Someone dropped a wine glass.
Another whispered,
"My God..."
Vanessa stepped backward.
"No..."
"This isn't real."
The Second Recording
Before anyone could react...
The screen switched to another camera.
This one overlooked the catering kitchen.
Timestamp:
7:26 PM
The guests watched as Richard Cole, Adrian's best man and lifelong friend, quietly entered through the staff entrance.
He wasn't carrying flowers.
He wasn't checking on the wedding.
He reached into his tuxedo pocket.
Pulled out another small vial.
Walked directly toward the champagne station.
Then carefully poured several drops into one specific glass.
Afterward...
He adjusted the serving tray himself.
Making sure that poisoned glass would be delivered to Adrian.
Margaret closed her eyes.
"So that's how they did it."
Adrian stared at the screen.
His best friend.
The man he had trusted since childhood.
Standing there...
Poisoning his drink.
The Confession
Sophia collapsed into a chair.
Her breathing became frantic.
"I can't do this anymore."
Vanessa turned sharply.
"Sophia!"
"Don't say a word."
But it was too late.
Sophia burst into tears.
"It wasn't supposed to happen like this."
The room froze.
She looked toward Adrian.
"I'm sorry."
"The poisoned champagne wasn't the real plan."
Adrian's voice was barely audible.
"What do you mean?"
Sophia sobbed.
"After everyone blamed Lily..."
"You would rush upstairs."
"They would tell you there was another emergency."
"You'd be forced to sign medical proxy documents while everyone panicked."
"The company lawyers were already waiting."
Vanessa shouted,
"Shut up!"
Sophia screamed back,
"No!"
"I'm tired of lying!"
She pointed toward Richard.
"He planned everything!"
"He said once Adrian was declared temporarily incapacitated..."
"...they would control Sinclair Global."
Every guest stared at Richard.
He hadn't spoken a single word all evening.
Not because he was shocked.
Because he had been waiting.
Waiting for the perfect moment.
The Chase
Richard suddenly grabbed the master control tablet from the AV technician.
He smashed it onto the floor.
The screen went black.
Then he ran.
"Stop him!"
Security guards sprinted after him through the west corridor.
Guests scattered in panic.
Richard shoved two guards aside.
Leaped over a decorative table.
And raced toward the private elevator.
He reached the end of the hallway.
An open elevator shaft.
Nowhere else to go.
The guards surrounded him.
Richard laughed.
"You still don't understand."
He slowly reached inside his tailored tuxedo jacket.
Several guards drew their weapons.
Adrian arrived seconds later.
"Don't do this."
Richard smiled coldly.
"What makes you think I came here to survive?"
Everyone expected him to pull out the missing poison vial.
Instead...
He removed a small black encrypted flash drive.
Holding it between two fingers, he looked directly at Adrian.
His smile was calm.
Almost victorious.
"This..."
He raised the drive slightly.
"...contains the devastating truth about why they desperately needed you completely out of the picture."
Richard's smile widened.
"You think tonight was about your company."
He shook his head slowly.
"It never was."
"It was always about..."
He paused just long enough for every heartbeat in the hallway to feel deafening.
May you like
"...who you really are."
