Chapter 3 â Hidden Bloodlines

Chapter 3 â Hidden Bloodlines
Adrian felt the room spinning.
The old man's words echoed relentlessly inside his mind.
"Edward Sinclair was never your father."
For several long seconds, neither man spoke.
Finally, Adrian found his voice.
"Who are you?"
Samuel Graves remained calm.
"A man who spent twenty-five years hiding because the wrong people learned the truth."
"You expect me to believe you're Samuel Graves?"
"I don't expect anything."
Samuel reached into his worn leather satchel and carefully placed an old photograph on the coffee table.
It showed a young Edward Sinclair standing beside Samuel in a hospital corridor.
Between them stood a nurse holding two newborn babies.
The date stamped in the corner read:
October 14 â Twenty-Nine Years Ago.
Adrian's heartbeat quickened.
"I've never seen this."
"You were never supposed to."
The Flash Drive Opens
Back at Sinclair Global's Cybersecurity Center, the engineers continued studying the encrypted drive.
One analyst suddenly noticed a faded note attached to the back of the photograph that had been recovered with Richard's belongings.
In tiny handwriting were the words:
"A child's true birthday is never the one on the certificate."
The analyst immediately called Adrian.
No answer.
Detective Daniel Mercer authorized the team to continue.
"What do we know?"
The youngest programmer looked at the files.
"Adrian's official birthday is October 17."
She paused.
"But this photograph says October 14."
Mercer looked toward the monitor.
"Try October 14."
The programmer entered the date.
ACCESS GRANTED
The room fell silent.
The encryption dissolved.
Folders slowly appeared across the screen.
One folder stood apart from all the others.
HIDDEN BLOODLINES
The First File
Mercer clicked it open.
Thousands of scanned documents filled the screen.
Birth certificates.
Hospital records.
DNA reports.
Court documents.
Many had been marked CONFIDENTIAL.
The first birth certificate belonged to:
Male Child
Mother: Eleanor Hayes
Father: Unknown
Date of Birth:
October 14
The second birth certificate appeared immediately afterward.
Male Child
Mother: Victoria Sinclair
Father: Edward Sinclair
Date of Birth:
October 14
The analyst frowned.
"Two boys."
"Born within minutes."
"Same hospital."
Mercer slowly leaned forward.
"No..."
The next document made everyone's blood run cold.
A handwritten order.
Signed by Edward Sinclair.
"Proceed with the exchange immediately."
The Secret Nursery
Samuel quietly led Adrian downstairs into the basement of the penthouse.
Behind a wine cellar wall was a hidden elevator.
The elevator descended several floors below ground.
When the doors opened...
Adrian stared in disbelief.
An abandoned nursery.
Dust covered the furniture.
A wooden rocking horse stood frozen in time.
A faded mobile still hung above an empty crib.
Samuel walked toward a cabinet.
"I built this room."
"Why?"
"To protect a child."
He opened a drawer.
Inside lay dozens of hospital bracelets.
One immediately caught Adrian's attention.
The name written across it was:
Baby A
Not Adrian Sinclair.
Not any surname at all.
Just...
Baby A.
Samuel handed it to him.
"This belonged to you."
Twenty-Nine Years Earlier
Rain pounded against the windows of Saint Catherine Hospital.
A frightened young nurse held two newborn boys.
She looked toward Edward Sinclair.
"I can't do this."
Edward placed an envelope filled with cash into her trembling hands.
"You already have."
The nurse burst into tears.
"Their mothers will never know."
Edward's voice became icy.
"They'll know only what I allow them to know."
Samuel, hidden outside the nursery, watched everything through the small window.
He couldn't move.
Couldn't speak.
He had witnessed a crime powerful enough to destroy an empire.
From that night forward...
He became the most dangerous witness alive.
Margaret's Discovery
Meanwhile...
Margaret Ellis remained at the Sinclair estate helping investigators sort through old family records.
She opened a locked filing cabinet hidden inside Edward Sinclair's study.
Almost every folder contained financial documents.
Except one.
It was labeled simply:
Private.
Inside she found a child's drawing.
Two little boys holding hands beneath a large tree.
Written in crayon:
"Brothers Forever."
Margaret frowned.
Adrian had always been an only child.
Hadn't he?
Behind the drawing lay a sealed envelope.
Inside was a second DNA report.
The results had been highlighted in red.
Probability of Paternity:
Edward Sinclair â 0.00%
Margaret covered her mouth.
"My God..."
The Missing Child
Back in the cybersecurity lab...
Mercer continued reading the recovered files.
Another folder opened automatically.
Its title read:
SUBJECT B
Inside were yearly surveillance photographs.
The same little boy.
Age five.
Age ten.
Age fifteen.
Age twenty.
His face changed over the years...
Yet something remained familiar.
One analyst whispered,
"He looks like Adrian."
Mercer nodded slowly.
"They could almost be twins."
The final photograph had been taken only six months earlier.
The young man stood outside a small neighborhood auto repair shop.
Wearing grease-stained overalls.
His employee badge read:
Ethan Hayes
Everyone in the room froze.
Mercer immediately ordered a background search.
Minutes later...
The report arrived.
Age: Twenty-Nine.
Occupation: Mechanic.
Parents: Eleanor Hayes (deceased).
Father: Unknown.
Blood Type...
Matched Adrian Sinclair exactly.
Richard's Last Laugh
At the detention center...
Richard watched television coverage of the investigation.
A guard approached his cell.
"They opened the drive."
Richard smiled.
"I know."
"How?"
Richard pointed toward the television.
"They're asking the wrong questions."
The guard frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Richard quietly leaned against the wall.
"They're looking for who Adrian really is."
He laughed softly.
"They should be asking..."
"...who benefited from making him someone else."
The Final Recording
Late that night...
One final video file unlocked itself inside the flash drive.
The timestamp was twenty-nine years old.
The image was blurry.
A hospital room.
Edward Sinclair stood beside a crib.
He looked directly into the hidden camera.
Then spoke.
"One child will inherit my fortune."
"The other..."
"...must disappear."
He reached into the crib.
Lifted one of the newborn boys into his arms.
Then turned toward someone standing outside the camera's view.
"Take him."
"Make sure no one ever finds him."
The screen flickered.
Just before the recording ended...
The hidden camera accidentally captured the face of the person receiving the baby.
Detective Mercer stared at the frozen image.
His expression changed instantly.
"No..."
The analyst looked at him.
"What is it?"
Mercer slowly zoomed in.
The woman holding the baby...
Was Margaret Ellis.
The trusted kitchen supervisor.
The woman who had defended Lily without hesitation.
The woman Adrian believed he had met for the very first time only yesterday.
Mercer whispered,
"She's been protecting this secret..."
May you like
"...for twenty-nine years."
