Chapter 10

Chapter 10

The Bloodline War

The voice came from the darkness.

"Clara."

Nobody moved.

For three seconds, the entire mansion stopped breathing.

Evelyn Hart had spent her entire life chasing the truth.

But some truths were never supposed to return.

Victor Vane was dead.

Everyone knew it.

The newspapers.

The legal records.

The funeral.

The empire that continued after his disappearance.

Dead.

And yet his voice had just filled the room.

Marcus slowly stepped in front of Sophie.

His body moved before his mind could process what was happening.

Protect.

That was all he knew.

Clara grabbed Sophie's shoulder.

"Evelyn."

Her voice was barely a whisper.

"Take Sophie."

Evelyn looked at her.

"You know who that is."

Clara did not answer.

That was an answer.

The lights suddenly returned.

The hallway was empty.

No Victor.

No stranger.

Only the sound of footsteps echoing from the lower floor.

Slow.

Calm.

Confident.

The kind of footsteps made by someone who knew everyone else was afraid.

Then the person appeared.

A man stood beneath the staircase.

Older.

Gray hair.

A scar crossing his left eyebrow.

Everyone stared.

Except Richard.

Richard looked away.

And Evelyn noticed.

Marcus's face lost all color.

"No."

The man smiled.

"Hello, Marcus."

Marcus took a step back.

"Impossible."

The man tilted his head.

"That word has become very popular in this family."

Evelyn looked between them.

"Who is he?"

Marcus could barely speak.

"My uncle."

A pause.

"Adrian Vane."

The name meant something.

Evelyn remembered it from old files.

Adrian Vane.

Victor's younger brother.

The man who disappeared twenty-five years ago.

The man officially declared dead.

Another dead person.

Another impossible return.

Adrian smiled.

"I see the Hart family still has a habit of believing paperwork."

Evelyn raised her weapon.

"Nobody move."

Adrian looked amused.

"Agent Hart."

"Former agent."

"Still stubborn."

Evelyn didn't lower the weapon.

"Explain."

Adrian looked around the mansion.

"After all these years, you finally found the room where everyone lied."

Marcus stepped forward.

"What do you want?"

Adrian looked at Sophie.

The smile disappeared.

"Her."

Every person in the room reacted.

Marcus moved instantly.

"No."

Adrian sighed.

"That answer is exactly why your family always loses."

Evelyn's eyes narrowed.

"You don't want Sophie."

Everyone looked at her.

She continued.

"You want what she represents."

Adrian smiled.

"Good."

He looked at Richard.

"She understands."

Evelyn turned.

Richard said nothing.

That frightened her.

"Richard."

He looked at her.

"I was hoping you would never have to know."

The betrayal felt different this time.

Because she was beginning to realize something.

Richard had not been hiding information from her.

He had been hiding an entire war.

"The Vane family has been fighting for decades."

Adrian said.

"Not for money."

"For control."

He walked slowly into the room.

"Victor believed blood gave him ownership."

"Your father believed intelligence gave him power."

"And I believed neither of them deserved anything."

Marcus clenched his fists.

"You killed my father."

Adrian looked at him.

"Did he tell you that?"

A cold silence.

Evelyn watched Marcus.

A small reaction.

Doubt.

"You know something."

She said.

Marcus looked at her.

"I know my father was not the man everyone believed."

Adrian laughed.

"Finally."

He walked toward the table.

"The truth is simple."

"Victor built the empire."

"He also destroyed anyone who threatened it."

"He created enemies."

Adrian looked at Sophie.

"And then he created a child who could destroy everything."

Sophie stepped closer to Evelyn.

"Why me?"

The question was quiet.

But everyone heard it.

Adrian's expression changed.

For a moment, he looked almost human.

"Because you are the last honest thing in this family."

Nobody expected that answer.

"The Vane inheritance requires one thing."

Adrian continued.

"An heir who carries both bloodlines."

He looked at Evelyn.

"Hart and Vane."

Evelyn understood.

"The company."

"The fortune."

"The archive."

Adrian nodded.

"Everything."

Marcus looked at Clara.

"You knew."

Clara lowered her head.

"I knew Sophie was the key."

"And you hid her."

"Yes."

"From me."

Clara's eyes filled with tears.

"From everyone."

Marcus looked destroyed.

Then Adrian said something unexpected.

"She did the right thing."

Everyone looked at him.

Adrian continued.

"Because the moment Sophie was identified, the war began."

Evelyn frowned.

"What war?"

Adrian smiled.

"The war between everyone who wants to control her."

He pointed around the room.

"Marcus wants to protect her."

"Clara wants to hide her."

"Richard wants to guide her."

"And you..."

He looked at Evelyn.

"You want the truth."

Evelyn said nothing.

Because it was true.

"And that makes you the most dangerous person here."

Suddenly, phones began ringing.

One after another.

Marcus's.

Daniel's.

Richard's.

Everyone received the same message.

A news alert.

BREAKING: VANE EMPIRE OWNERSHIP FILES LEAKED ONLINE

Evelyn opened the article.

Her face changed.

Someone had released the inheritance documents.

The world now knew about Sophie.

The world now knew about the fortune.

And the world now knew exactly where she was.

Marcus looked outside.

Headlights appeared beyond the trees.

One vehicle.

Then another.

Then dozens.

Reporters.

Lawyers.

Security teams.

Everyone was coming.

Adrian smiled.

"The war has started."

Evelyn turned to him.

"You planned this."

Adrian did not deny it.

"I opened the door."

"Why?"

"Because hiding never saved anyone."

Clara stepped forward.

"You don't understand what you have done."

Adrian looked at her.

"No."

His voice became cold.

"I understand perfectly."

Then he looked at Sophie.

"The world will finally see the last heir."

Sophie held Evelyn's hand.

Her fingers were trembling.

Evelyn knelt beside her.

"Stay with me."

Sophie nodded.

But before they could move...

The mansion doors opened.

A group of armed security entered.

Everyone froze.

The leader stepped forward.

"Nobody leaves."

Marcus recognized him.

His expression changed.

"That can't be."

Evelyn looked at him.

"Who?"

Marcus whispered:

"The person who controls Vane International."

The man removed his sunglasses.

And smiled.

"Hello, everyone."

He looked directly at Sophie.

"Especially you."

"I've been waiting a long time to meet the real heir."

Evelyn felt the room shift.

Because Adrian Vane had started the war.

But someone else had been preparing for it.

Someone with more money.

More power.

And a reason to erase Sophie forever.

The bloodline war had begun.

May you like

And Sophie was standing at the center of it.

To be continued...
