Chapter 10 – The Night Of Revenge

THE LITTLE GIRL WHO SAVED HER FATHER

Chapter 10 – The Night Of Revenge

The words destroyed the silence.

“The fire was meant to kill you.”

Ethan Blackwood stared at his father.

For several seconds, he forgot how to breathe.

Not Amelia.

Not Lily.

Not even the Blackwood inheritance.

Him.

He had spent seven years believing his wife and daughter were the targets.

He had built his entire life around that pain.

Around that guilt.

Around the question that haunted him every night:

Why them?

But the truth was worse.

They were never the final target.

He was.

“Explain.”

Ethan’s voice was low.

Jonathan looked like a man who had been waiting fifteen years for this moment.

“I should have told you before.”

“Yes.”

“I should have protected you.”

“Yes.”

“I failed.”

Ethan stepped closer.

“You keep saying that.”

Jonathan looked at him.

“Because it is true.”

“No.”

Ethan shook his head.

“Failure is making a mistake.”

His eyes became cold.

“This was a choice.”

The words hurt.

Jonathan accepted them.

Because Ethan was right.

The old Blackwood estate was surrounded.

Police.

Security.

Media.

Everyone had arrived after Marcus released the evidence.

Victor was arrested.

Richard was found attempting to escape through a private airport.

Arthur was placed under guard.

For the first time in decades…

The people who controlled the shadows were standing in the light.

But Ethan did not feel victorious.

Because the biggest question remained.

Who wanted him dead?

Jonathan sat at the old dining table.

The same table where generations of Blackwoods had made decisions.

The same table where family became business.

And business became war.

“Your grandfather created the Blackwood Archive.”

Jonathan began.

“Everyone thought it was about money.”

“It wasn’t.”

Ethan listened.

“The archive contained evidence against powerful people.”

“Politicians.”

“Corporations.”

“Criminal organizations.”

“Your grandfather believed information was the greatest weapon in the world.”

Ethan looked at him.

“And someone wanted it.”

Jonathan nodded.

“Years ago, I discovered someone inside the family was selling pieces of the archive.”

“Who?”

Jonathan hesitated.

Then said:

“Your uncle Victor.”

Ethan frowned.

“But Victor wanted the company.”

“He wanted more than that.”

Jonathan looked at Amelia.

“He wanted access to the archive.”

Amelia spoke quietly.

“And the fire?”

Jonathan nodded.

“The night of the fire, Victor planned to erase the people who knew.”

“Me.”

“Amelia.”

“And Lily.”

Ethan frowned.

“But you said it was meant to kill me.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Jonathan looked at him.

“Because you were the only person who could open the final section of the archive.”

The room became silent.

Ethan felt a chill.

“Why me?”

“Because your grandfather designed it that way.”

Jonathan explained.

“The final archive could only be accessed by the direct heir.”

“Your DNA.”

“Your voice.”

“Your memories.”

Ethan stared.

“My memories?”

Jonathan nodded.

“The system used family verification.”

“It required information only a true Blackwood would know.”

Ethan understood.

The bloodline.

The inheritance.

Everything was connected.

Lily.

Evelyn.

The archive.

The fire.

All of it.

“But Victor couldn’t kill me.”

Jonathan continued.

“So he changed the plan.”

“He destroyed your family.”

“He wanted you broken.”

“Because a broken man would never search for the truth.”

Ethan laughed bitterly.

“He underestimated me.”

Jonathan looked at him.

“No.”

“He underestimated love.”

Across the room, Lily was sitting beside Evelyn.

The two girls were no longer strangers.

They were talking quietly.

Two children who had been used as pieces in an adult war.

Ethan watched them.

And realized something.

Victor, Arthur, Richard…

All of them believed power came from controlling people.

They were wrong.

Power came from the people who refused to abandon you.

Later that night.

Ethan stood alone inside the Blackwood archive room.

A hidden room beneath the old estate.

The door opened only after his hand touched the scanner.

A voice spoke.

“Identity confirmed.”

“Ethan Jonathan Blackwood.”

The massive steel door opened.

Inside were thousands of documents.

Hard drives.

Photographs.

Records.

A lifetime of secrets.

Marcus entered behind him.

“Sir.”

Ethan looked around.

“Find everything related to the fire.”

Marcus nodded.

They searched for hours.

Then Ethan found something.

A folder.

Marked:

PROJECT DAWN

He opened it.

Inside was a list of names.

Victor.

Richard.

Samuel.

Arthur.

But one name was different.

A name Ethan had never seen before.

Dr. Elena Voss.

Ethan frowned.

“Who is this?”

Marcus checked the database.

Then froze.

“Sir…”

“What?”

“She was the chief investigator assigned to the hospital fire.”

Ethan looked at the file.

The person responsible for finding the truth…

Had been part of hiding it.

A photograph was attached.

A woman.

Middle-aged.

Professional.

Calm.

Standing beside Victor.

Ethan’s expression changed.

“She worked with him.”

Marcus nodded.

“Apparently.”

The conspiracy was growing again.

Suddenly, Ethan’s phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

A woman’s voice.

“Ethan Blackwood.”

He recognized it.

Dr. Elena Voss.

“How did you get this number?”

A soft laugh.

“You still ask the wrong questions.”

Ethan said nothing.

The woman continued:

“You found Project Dawn.”

“So you finally opened the archive.”

“What do you want?”

“I want to finish what started seven years ago.”

Ethan’s grip tightened.

“You failed.”

“No.”

Her voice was calm.

“I succeeded.”

A pause.

“Your family survived.”

“But you still don’t know the truth.”

Ethan looked at the file.

“What truth?”

“The fire was not planned because of the archive.”

Silence.

“Then why?”

The woman answered:

“Because Amelia discovered the child.”

Ethan froze.

“What child?”

A pause.

Then:

“The first Blackwood experiment.”

The call ended.

Ethan stood motionless.

The words echoed.

The child.

The experiment.

Another secret.

Another hidden chapter.

Another enemy.

When he returned upstairs, Amelia immediately noticed his expression.

“What happened?”

Ethan looked at her.

“Who is Dr. Elena Voss?”

The color disappeared from Amelia’s face.

“Where did you hear that name?”

“Answer me.”

Amelia looked toward Lily.

Then Evelyn.

Then Ethan.

“I thought she was dead.”

Ethan froze.

“You know her?”

Amelia whispered:

“She was the doctor who examined Lily after she was born.”

Silence.

“And?”

Amelia’s eyes filled with fear.

“She was the person who told Victor…”

“That Lily was special.”

Ethan looked at his daughter.

The little girl who saved his life.

The little girl everyone tried to erase.

Suddenly, the entire story changed.

Lily was not only an heir.

Not only a daughter.

She was something someone had been searching for before she was even born.

Outside the mansion…

A black vehicle stopped.

A woman stepped out.

Dr. Elena Voss.

She looked at the house.

Then at the lights inside.

And smiled.

“Seven years.”

“So much effort.”

She whispered:

“But finally…”

“The Blackwood child has awakened.”

Inside the mansion, Ethan looked out the window.

He did not know someone was watching.

He did not know the next enemy was closer than anyone imagined.

He only knew one thing.

The war was not over.

It had only reached the truth.
