Chapter 12 – The Final Trap

THE LITTLE GIRL WHO SAVED HER FATHER

Chapter 12 – The Final Trap

The mansion security alarms did not sound.

That was the first thing Ethan noticed.

No warning.

No locked doors.

No emergency response.

Nothing.

Which meant only one thing.

Someone had entered because they were allowed to.

Ethan stood between Elena Voss and Lily.

His daughter held onto his jacket.

The same way she had on the night she saved him from the poisoned tea.

The same way she had when she was afraid.

But this time, Ethan was not afraid.

Not of Elena.

Not of Victor.

Not of anyone.

Because after everything they had taken from him…

There was nothing left for them to threaten.

Except his family.

And that was the one thing he would destroy anyone to protect.

“Leave.”

Ethan’s voice was cold.

Elena smiled.

“You sound exactly like your father.”

Ethan’s expression changed.

“Do not mention him.”

“Why?”

She tilted her head.

“Because he was right about one thing.”

“What?”

“You were always the strongest Blackwood.”

Ethan said nothing.

Elena continued.

“But strength without knowledge is useless.”

She looked around the mansion.

“At least now you finally understand.”

“Understand what?”

“That your entire life was designed.”

The words hung in the air.

Lily looked confused.

“Designed?”

Elena looked at her.

“Yes.”

“You.”

Ethan stepped forward.

“Do not talk to her.”

Elena ignored him.

“From the moment you were born, the Blackwood family was watching.”

“Their bloodline.”

“Their future.”

“Their legacy.”

Ethan’s anger grew.

“She is a child.”

Elena smiled.

“That is what made her valuable.”

Amelia entered the room.

The moment she saw Elena, her face changed.

Not fear.

Something worse.

Recognition.

“You.”

Elena turned.

“Hello, Amelia.”

“You should have died.”

The words shocked Ethan.

Amelia’s eyes filled with anger.

“You ruined my family.”

Elena smiled.

“No.”

“I revealed what your family truly was.”

Amelia stepped forward.

“You experimented on my daughter.”

Elena’s expression remained calm.

“I studied her.”

“She was extraordinary.”

“She was not your experiment.”

“She was mine.”

Ethan felt something inside him break.

“You are sick.”

Elena looked at him.

“No.”

“I am honest.”

Suddenly, Marcus rushed into the room.

“Sir.”

Ethan turned.

“What happened?”

“We found something.”

Marcus looked at Elena.

Then stopped.

“She’s here.”

“Yes.”

Marcus looked confused.

“How did she get past security?”

Ethan already knew.

Someone helped her.

Again.

The same pattern.

The enemy was always inside.

“Search the house.”

Marcus nodded.

Then stopped.

“Sir…”

“What?”

“We found another problem.”

“What?”

“The archive.”

Ethan’s face changed.

“What about it?”

“It has been accessed.”

A cold silence.

“By who?”

Marcus looked at Elena.

“No.”

Ethan understood.

Elena did not come here to talk.

She came here because she had already started the final move.

They rushed underground.

The Blackwood archive door was open.

Impossible.

The system required Ethan’s DNA.

His voice.

His authorization.

But the door was open.

Inside, the main server was active.

A countdown appeared.

PROJECT DAWN FINALIZATION

01:00:00

Ethan stared.

“What is this?”

Elena walked behind them.

“The final stage.”

“What final stage?”

“The truth.”

The screen displayed a file.

SUBJECT ZERO

Ethan clicked.

The information appeared.

And for the first time in days…

He had no words.

Because the file was not about Lily.

Not Evelyn.

Not even the Blackwood bloodline.

It was about him.

SUBJECT: ETHAN BLACKWOOD

GENETIC STATUS: ORIGINAL DAWN CARRIER

The room went silent.

Amelia covered her mouth.

“No…”

Ethan looked at Elena.

“What did you do?”

She answered calmly:

“Nothing.”

“You were born this way.”

The truth finally appeared.

Project Dawn had never started with Lily.

It started with Ethan.

The Blackwood family had discovered decades ago that certain members carried rare genetic traits.

Traits connected to memory, intelligence, and emotional response.

The family believed those traits could secure their future.

But Ethan’s grandfather went further.

He created a system.

A system designed to identify the strongest continuation of the bloodline.

And Ethan…

Was the first successful result.

“You’re saying I was tested?”

Elena nodded.

“Since birth.”

Ethan looked disgusted.

“I was your subject.”

“No.”

She looked at him.

“You were the reason Project Dawn existed.”

He shook his head.

“No.”

“Yes.”

“The company.”

“The inheritance.”

“The archive.”

“Everything was built around one question.”

“What question?”

Elena answered:

“How far can a human legacy continue?”

Lily stepped forward.

“Daddy?”

Ethan turned.

She looked scared.

“Does that mean you’re not normal?”

The question destroyed him.

Because that was what Elena wanted.

She wanted Lily to believe they were different.

Broken.

Created.

Not loved.

Ethan knelt.

“Look at me.”

Lily did.

“You are my daughter.”

“But…”

“No.”

He held her hands.

“Nothing changes that.”

“You are not a project.”

“You are not a number.”

“You are not an experiment.”

“You are Lily.”

The girl’s eyes filled with tears.

Elena watched silently.

Then she smiled.

“That is why you were always the problem.”

Ethan looked up.

“What?”

“Love.”

She shook her head.

“It changed everything.”

“The Blackwoods spent generations trying to create perfection.”

“And you destroyed it by becoming human.”

Suddenly, the archive screen changed.

A new file opened.

A video.

Eleanor Blackwood appeared.

Ethan froze.

His mother.

She looked younger.

Healthy.

And she was speaking directly to the camera.

“If you are watching this…”

“Then Project Dawn has failed.”

Everyone became silent.

Eleanor continued:

“I know Ethan will hate me.”

“He has every right.”

“But I made the choice I thought would save him.”

The video showed documents.

Two children.

Two names.

Lily.

And another.

Ethan leaned closer.

Because the second name was familiar.

Too familiar.

SUBJECT TWO: ELENA VOSS

Everyone froze.

The screen continued.

RELATIONSHIP: BLACKWOOD DESCENDANT

Elena’s face changed.

“No.”

Ethan turned slowly.

“You…”

The woman who had controlled everything.

The woman who had studied Lily.

The woman who had destroyed his family.

Was connected to them.

Eleanor’s voice continued:

“Project Dawn’s greatest failure was not the children.”

“It was the person who created it.”

“Someone who believed blood was more important than love.”

The video stopped.

Nobody moved.

Elena looked at the screen.

For the first time…

She looked afraid.

Ethan stared.

“You’re a Blackwood.”

She said nothing.

“You destroyed this family…”

“Because you wanted to belong.”

A flicker of anger crossed her face.

“I was the rightful heir.”

“No.”

Ethan shook his head.

“You were a child who was abandoned.”

The words hit harder than expected.

Elena’s expression changed.

For one second…

Ethan saw the truth.

Not a monster.

A wounded person who chose to become one.

Then the mansion lights went out.

Again.

A familiar sound.

A system override.

Marcus checked his device.

“Sir…”

“What?”

“Someone activated the emergency protocol.”

“Who?”

Marcus looked at the screen.

A name appeared.

ELEANOR BLACKWOOD

Everyone froze.

Ethan whispered:

“My mother?”

A final message appeared:

IF YOU WANT THE TRUTH ABOUT THE FIRE… COME ALONE.

Ethan looked toward Amelia.

“No.”

She immediately understood.

“You’re not going.”

“I have to.”

“No.”

Her voice became stronger.

“You spent your entire life trying to save everyone.”

She stepped closer.

“This time, let someone save you.”

Ethan looked at Lily.

Then Evelyn.

Then Amelia.

His family.

The family he almost lost forever.

But before he could answer…

A second message appeared.

OR THE SECOND DAWN CHILD DIES.

The room froze.

Everyone turned.

Evelyn was gone.

Ethan’s blood ran cold.

Elena smiled.

Not because she had won.

Because someone else had moved first.

Someone even more dangerous.
