Chapter 8 – The Blackwood War

THE LITTLE GIRL WHO SAVED HER FATHER

Chapter 8 – The Blackwood War

The photograph sat on Ethan Blackwood’s desk for twelve hours.

Nobody touched it.

Nobody moved it.

Nobody wanted to admit what it meant.

Because sometimes the truth was not something people searched for.

Sometimes the truth was something they feared finding.

A second child.

A second heir.

A second person carrying the Blackwood bloodline.

And the most terrifying part…

She looked exactly like Lily.

The mansion had become a fortress.

Every entrance was guarded.

Every camera was monitored.

Every employee was investigated.

But Ethan knew something.

Walls could protect a person from enemies outside.

They could not protect a family from secrets inside.

Lily sat beside Amelia in the living room.

The two of them were finally together.

A mother and daughter who had lost seven years.

But even their reunion was surrounded by danger.

Lily held the photograph.

“Is she like me?”

Amelia looked at the picture.

Her expression was painful.

“I don’t know.”

Lily looked confused.

“But she has my face.”

“Yes.”

“Then why does she look scared?”

Nobody answered.

Because everyone noticed the same thing.

The girl in the photograph was not smiling.

She was standing beside Arthur Blackwood.

But her eyes looked empty.

Like someone who had grown up knowing she was a weapon.

At 9:00 a.m., Blackwood International collapsed into chaos.

The stock market reacted immediately.

Investors panicked.

News channels repeated the same story.

SECOND BLACKWOOD HEIR REVEALED

FAMILY LEGACY DISPUTED

CEO ETHAN BLACKWOOD ACCUSED OF HIDING TRUE SUCCESSOR

Victor had won the first battle.

Not legally.

Psychologically.

The world no longer saw one Blackwood heir.

They saw a family fighting over power.

And that was exactly what Victor wanted.

Inside the emergency board meeting, Ethan faced the remaining executives.

Many seats were empty.

Some members had resigned overnight.

Others had sided with Victor.

Ethan stood at the front of the room.

“We are not here to discuss rumors.”

A board member interrupted.

“Mr. Blackwood, with respect, the company cannot survive this.”

Ethan looked at him.

“Because my family has enemies?”

“Because your family has secrets.”

Silence.

The words hurt because they were true.

Another executive spoke.

“Two children claiming inheritance rights.”

“A dead wife returning.”

“A dead grandfather appearing.”

“Do you understand how this looks?”

Ethan looked around the room.

“Yes.”

Everyone waited.

“It looks like my family has been attacked for decades.”

Nobody spoke.

Ethan continued:

“And today, I will show you who started it.”

The doors opened.

Everyone turned.

Amelia walked in.

Behind her was Jonathan.

And beside them…

Lily.

The room became silent.

Ethan placed the photograph on the screen.

“This girl.”

The image appeared.

“This is the second heir.”

Whispers spread.

Then Ethan showed another file.

A birth record.

Everyone froze.

Because the document contained a name.

Evelyn Blackwood.

Born seven years ago.

Same year as Lily.

Same hospital.

Same night.

The room exploded.

“Two babies?”

“How is that possible?”

“Were they twins?”

Ethan looked at Amelia.

She stepped forward.

“I need to tell the truth.”

Everyone became silent.

Seven years earlier.

The night of the fire.

Amelia was not the only woman giving birth at Blackwood Memorial Hospital.

Another woman was there.

A woman connected to the Blackwood family.

Arthur’s daughter.

The child was Evelyn.

But something happened.

The hospital records were switched.

The fire destroyed the evidence.

And Arthur took Evelyn.

Raising her as the rightful heir.

“But why make Lily disappear?”

Ethan asked.

Amelia looked at him.

“Because Victor discovered Lily was born first.”

Silence.

The entire room froze.

“First?”

Amelia nodded.

“Lily was the original heir.”

Ethan looked at his daughter.

“The inheritance rules were based on birth order.”

“So Victor needed Lily gone.”

“And Evelyn?”

“His replacement.”

The door suddenly opened.

A security officer rushed inside.

“Mr. Blackwood.”

“What?”

“We found Victor.”

Everyone turned.

“Where?”

The officer hesitated.

“At the old Blackwood estate.”

Ethan frowned.

“That property has been abandoned for years.”

“Yes.”

“There is someone with him.”

“Who?”

The officer looked uncomfortable.

“Evelyn.”

Ethan’s heart tightened.

Thirty minutes later.

The old Blackwood estate appeared in the distance.

The place had been abandoned after Ethan’s grandfather died.

A house filled with memories.

And secrets.

Ethan entered with Marcus and Amelia.

The inside was dark.

Dust covered everything.

Then they heard a voice.

A child’s voice.

“You’re Lily’s father.”

Everyone stopped.

A girl stepped out.

Seven years old.

Same height.

Same eyes.

Same birthmark.

Ethan felt like he was looking at a mirror.

Evelyn stared at him.

Not afraid.

Not angry.

Just curious.

“Are you?”

Ethan slowly nodded.

“Yes.”

She looked at Lily.

The two girls stared at each other.

Two children.

Two lives.

Two victims.

Neither of them had chosen this war.

Then Victor appeared from the shadows.

Clapping slowly.

“Beautiful.”

Ethan turned.

“You.”

Victor smiled.

“You finally understand.”

“Understand what?”

“That this was never about killing Lily.”

Ethan’s expression changed.

Victor continued:

“It was about replacing her.”

He looked at Evelyn.

“She was supposed to be the perfect heir.”

“Trained.”

“Controlled.”

“Obedient.”

Lily stepped closer to Ethan.

Victor smiled.

“But Lily…”

He looked at her.

“She was always the problem.”

Ethan’s eyes darkened.

“Why?”

“Because she had something Evelyn didn’t.”

“What?”

Victor answered:

“Love.”

For the first time, Evelyn’s expression changed.

Pain.

Because she understood.

She had been raised as an heir.

But Lily had been raised as a daughter.

Victor had given Evelyn everything except the one thing a child needed.

A family.

Then Arthur appeared.

Slow applause echoed through the mansion.

Everyone turned.

The old man walked down the staircase.

Alive.

Powerful.

Cold.

“Enough.”

Victor looked surprised.

“Arthur?”

Arthur ignored him.

He looked at Ethan.

“You were always emotional.”

Ethan stepped forward.

“You destroyed my family.”

Arthur smiled.

“No.”

“I corrected it.”

He looked at Lily and Evelyn.

“These two girls represent the future.”

“One will lead the Blackwood empire.”

“The other will disappear.”

Amelia stepped forward.

“They are children.”

Arthur’s expression did not change.

“History does not care about children.”

Ethan stared at him.

“No.”

His voice became cold.

“History remembers monsters.”

Suddenly, Evelyn grabbed Lily’s hand.

Everyone froze.

The two girls looked at each other.

And Evelyn whispered:

“I don’t want this.”

Lily looked at her.

“You don’t?”

Evelyn shook her head.

“I don’t want to be an heir.”

“I just wanted someone to call me daughter.”

The words destroyed the room.

Because Ethan finally understood.

Arthur’s greatest weapon was not money.

Not power.

Not fear.

It was loneliness.

He created children who fought each other because they never knew they could stand together.

Then Arthur smiled.

Because he knew something nobody else did.

“Unfortunately…”

He looked toward the door.

“You are too late.”

Everyone turned.

A large screen activated.

A countdown appeared.

BLACKWOOD FAMILY TRUST TRANSFER: 10:00:00

Arthur spoke calmly.

“In ten hours…”

“The company belongs to me.”

“And every Blackwood heir…”

“Becomes irrelevant.”

Ethan stared at the countdown.

Then at Lily.

Then Evelyn.

Two daughters.

One family.

One final war.

And this time…

He was not fighting alone.
