Chapter 7 – The False Daughter

THE LITTLE GIRL WHO SAVED HER FATHER

Chapter 7 – The False Daughter

The words on the screen remained visible.

ASK YOUR MOTHER.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The message was simple.

Four words.

But it carried more weight than any confession.

Because everyone in the room understood the same thing.

Someone knew the truth.

Someone knew what happened fifteen years ago.

Someone knew why Jonathan Blackwood disappeared.

And someone knew why Ethan’s entire family had been hunted.

Ethan slowly turned toward his father.

Jonathan looked older in that moment.

Not because of his gray hair.

Not because of the years.

Because of guilt.

“Dad.”

Jonathan did not answer.

Ethan’s voice became colder.

“What does that mean?”

Silence.

“Who am I supposed to ask?”

Still nothing.

Ethan stepped closer.

“My mother?”

Jonathan finally looked at him.

And that was enough.

Ethan understood.

“She knows.”

Jonathan closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

Amelia looked shocked.

“Your mother is alive?”

Jonathan nodded.

Everyone froze.

Another impossible truth.

Another person who had been erased from Ethan’s life.

“How?”

Jonathan looked away.

“She was never dead.”

Ethan laughed softly.

Not because it was funny.

Because it was too much.

“Of course.”

“The dead keep coming back.”

He looked around the room.

“Apparently death means nothing to my family.”

The next morning, Ethan learned something that changed everything.

The woman everyone believed had died fifteen years ago…

Was living under another name.

Her name was Eleanor Blackwood.

And she had been hiding in a private estate outside the city.

Protected.

Not imprisoned.

Protected.

Because she knew something dangerous.

When Ethan arrived, he expected answers.

Instead, he found another broken person.

Eleanor was sitting beside a window.

Older.

Fragile.

But her eyes were exactly the same as he remembered.

The eyes of the woman who used to read him bedtime stories.

The woman who made him believe the world was safe.

“Ethan.”

Her voice trembled.

He stopped.

For a moment, he was a child again.

But then he remembered.

The lies.

The secrets.

The years.

“Why?”

One word.

But it contained everything.

Eleanor looked down.

“Because I failed you.”

“That is not an answer.”

“No.”

She looked at him.

“It is the truth.”

Eleanor revealed the secret she had carried for fifteen years.

After Ethan’s father discovered Victor’s betrayal, he confronted him.

But Victor was not alone.

Someone inside the family had been helping him.

Someone with access to everything.

Bank accounts.

Medical records.

Inheritance documents.

The person who could rewrite history.

Ethan’s mother whispered:

“The person who betrayed us…”

“Was your grandfather’s most trusted advisor.”

Ethan frowned.

“Who?”

Eleanor looked at him.

“Arthur Blackwood.”

Ethan froze.

“Arthur?”

His grandfather’s younger brother.

A man who had disappeared from family records decades ago.

Eleanor continued:

“He believed the Blackwood empire should never belong to your branch.”

“He believed your father stole what belonged to him.”

Ethan shook his head.

“But Arthur has been dead for twenty years.”

Eleanor’s expression changed.

“No.”

“He only wanted everyone to believe that.”

The pattern repeated.

Everyone thought the dead were gone.

Everyone was wrong.

Back at the mansion, Dr. Samuel Hayes finally revealed the truth about the DNA report.

The fake evidence Victor used against Lily.

Samuel placed the original documents on the table.

“I created this.”

Everyone looked at him.

Ethan’s eyes hardened.

“You created the fake DNA report?”

Samuel nodded.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because Victor forced me.”

Ethan said nothing.

Samuel continued:

“But I changed one thing.”

He opened the file.

The fake report showed:

LILY BLACKWOOD
DNA MATCH: 0%

Samuel pointed to another hidden document.

“The real result.”

Ethan stared.

DNA MATCH: 99.99%

Silence.

“She is your daughter.”

Samuel looked at Lily.

“I knew from the beginning.”

Ethan’s expression darkened.

“Then why help Victor?”

Samuel looked destroyed.

“Because he threatened my daughter.”

Ethan remembered.

The photographs.

The fear.

The helplessness.

But he also remembered seven years of lies.

“You still let me suffer.”

Samuel lowered his head.

“Yes.”

The doctor whispered:

“And I will regret that until I die.”

Then Lily entered.

She had been listening.

“Daddy?”

Ethan turned.

“Yes?”

She looked at Samuel.

“Was he the man from the dark room?”

Everyone froze.

Ethan knelt.

“What man?”

Lily hesitated.

“The man who came with Aunt Nora.”

“Did he look like Samuel?”

She shook her head.

“No.”

Everyone waited.

“Then who?”

Lily’s voice became smaller.

“He looked like you.”

Ethan felt cold.

“What?”

“The man who came to see me.”

“He said he was family.”

“He said one day…”

“I would disappear.”

Nobody spoke.

Amelia immediately stood.

“Lily.”

The girl looked at her mother.

“What did he look like?”

Lily closed her eyes.

Trying to remember.

“Same hair as Daddy.”

“Same eyes.”

“But older.”

Ethan felt his heartbeat increase.

Older.

Same eyes.

Same hair.

A Blackwood.

Someone from his bloodline.

Then Clara Blackwood arrived.

The half-sister Ethan had discovered days earlier.

She walked into the room carrying a folder.

“I know who she saw.”

Everyone turned.

Clara looked at Ethan.

“Your uncle.”

Ethan frowned.

“Victor?”

“No.”

She placed the folder down.

“Arthur.”

The room became silent.

Clara continued:

“Arthur Blackwood never died.”

“He created a new identity.”

“And he has spent twenty years preparing to take back what he believes is his.”

Ethan looked at Lily.

“So Victor was only a servant.”

Clara nodded.

“Yes.”

“Richard was a servant.”

“Samuel was a servant.”

“Nora was a servant.”

A terrible realization appeared.

“Then who is the real enemy?”

Clara looked at him.

“The man who has been hiding in the shadows.”

Suddenly, Ethan’s phone rang.

Unknown number.

Everyone became alert.

He answered.

A voice spoke.

Old.

Calm.

Familiar.

“Hello, Ethan.”

His blood turned cold.

Because he recognized the voice.

“Arthur.”

A quiet laugh.

“So you finally learned my name.”

Ethan gripped the phone.

“You tried to kill my daughter.”

“No.”

Arthur replied.

“I tried to protect my family.”

“She is my family.”

“No.”

Arthur’s voice became colder.

“She is the reason your family must end.”

Ethan looked at Lily.

“Why?”

A pause.

Then Arthur said:

“Because Lily is not the only child born from the Blackwood bloodline.”

Everyone froze.

“What?”

Arthur continued:

“You think the inheritance belongs to her?”

“You are wrong.”

“There is another heir.”

Ethan’s face changed.

“Who?”

Arthur laughed.

“You already know her.”

The call ended.

Everyone stood frozen.

Then Lily slowly walked toward Ethan.

“Daddy…”

“Yes?”

Her face was pale.

“Does he mean…”

She looked toward the hallway.

Toward the place where Clara had been standing.

But Clara was gone.

On the table was a single envelope.

Nobody saw who left it.

Inside was one photograph.

A little girl.

About seven years old.

Standing beside Arthur Blackwood.

On the back were three words:

THE REAL HEIR.

Ethan stared at the photograph.

Because the girl looked exactly like Lily.

Same age.

Same eyes.

Same birthmark.

The impossible truth had arrived.

There were two daughters.

Two heirs.

Two children connected to the Blackwood legacy.

And only one could inherit everything.
