Chapter 9 – The Last Confession

THE LITTLE GIRL WHO SAVED HER FATHER

Chapter 9 – The Last Confession

The countdown continued.

09:47:12

Every second felt like a knife.

The Blackwood family trust transfer was moving forward.

If Arthur succeeded, everything would belong to him.

The company.

The fortune.

The archive.

The legacy.

Everything generations of Blackwoods had built would disappear into the hands of the man who had spent decades destroying them.

But Ethan Blackwood was no longer the same man who walked into the boardroom that morning.

Seven years ago, he lost everything because he trusted the wrong people.

Now he had learned something.

Power did not come from money.

It came from knowing the truth.

And the truth was finally coming out.

Inside the old Blackwood estate, nobody moved.

Arthur stood near the staircase.

Victor stood beside him.

Evelyn stood between Lily and Ethan.

A strange image.

Two little girls.

Two heirs.

Two victims of the same war.

Ethan looked at Arthur.

“You still think you won.”

Arthur smiled.

“I know I won.”

“You have no idea what I have.”

Arthur pointed toward the old family crest hanging on the wall.

“For generations, the Blackwood name survived because we protected our secrets.”

“But your generation became weak.”

“You cared about love.”

“Family.”

“Feelings.”

He looked at Lily.

“That is why you lost.”

Ethan stepped forward.

“No.”

Arthur frowned.

“You made one mistake.”

“What?”

“You thought love was weakness.”

Ethan looked at his daughter.

“It was the only thing you never understood.”

Suddenly, Evelyn spoke.

“Arthur.”

Everyone turned.

The old man looked at her.

“Yes?”

The girl’s voice trembled.

But she did not step back.

“You lied to me.”

A strange expression appeared on Arthur’s face.

“About what?”

“You told me my mother abandoned me.”

Silence.

Amelia looked shocked.

Ethan looked at Evelyn.

“What?”

Evelyn continued:

“You told me nobody wanted me.”

“You told me I was special because I was the only person who could save the Blackwood family.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“But that wasn’t true.”

Arthur’s expression hardened.

“Evelyn.”

“No.”

The little girl shook her head.

“For seven years, I thought something was wrong with me.”

“I thought my parents didn’t love me.”

“But Lily…”

She looked at the other girl.

“Lily had people searching for her.”

“People who missed her.”

“People who loved her.”

She looked back at Arthur.

“You never loved me.”

The room became silent.

Because those words hurt more than any accusation.

Arthur had prepared Evelyn to inherit an empire.

But he never prepared her to be a child.

Victor suddenly laughed.

Everyone looked at him.

Arthur turned.

“What is funny?”

Victor smiled.

“You really believed she would obey forever?”

Arthur’s eyes narrowed.

“What are you doing?”

Victor stepped away.

“For years, you treated me like a servant.”

“You promised me everything.”

“The company.”

“The power.”

“The legacy.”

A bitter smile appeared.

“But you never trusted me.”

Arthur said nothing.

Victor continued:

“You never trust anyone.”

A pause.

“Because you know everyone is like you.”

Ethan watched carefully.

The alliance was breaking.

After all these years…

The monsters were finally turning on each other.

Arthur looked at Victor.

“You think you can betray me?”

Victor laughed.

“I already did.”

He pulled out a small device.

Everyone became alert.

“What is that?”

Victor smiled.

“The insurance policy.”

A screen appeared.

Not the company system.

A hidden recording.

The image showed Arthur and Victor years earlier.

Planning.

Discussing.

Ordering.

The hospital fire.

The fake deaths.

Everything.

Ethan stared.

“You recorded yourself?”

Victor looked proud.

“Arthur taught me something.”

“Never trust your partners.”

A pause.

“So I never trusted him.”

Arthur’s face changed.

For the first time…

Fear.

Because the evidence was real.

Not rumors.

Not accusations.

A confession.

The entire world would see it.

Victor laughed.

“I was going to use this after I controlled the company.”

“But then I realized something.”

He looked at Ethan.

“You are much more dangerous alive.”

Suddenly, a voice came from the entrance.

“You’re right.”

Everyone turned.

Nora stood there.

Ethan’s expression changed.

“Nora?”

She looked different.

Older.

Broken.

But determined.

Marcus immediately reached for his weapon.

Ethan stopped him.

“Wait.”

Nora walked forward holding a small box.

“I know I don’t deserve forgiveness.”

“No.”

Ethan answered.

“You don’t.”

Nora nodded.

“I know.”

She looked at Lily.

The little girl looked away.

That hurt Nora more than anything.

“I spent seven years afraid.”

“I told myself I was protecting her.”

“But the truth is…”

Her voice broke.

“I was protecting myself.”

She placed the box on the table.

“Inside this is everything.”

Marcus opened the box.

Inside were:

  • Original hospital records.

  • Security footage.

  • Financial transfers.

  • Victor’s payments.

  • Richard’s messages.

  • Arthur’s instructions.

The evidence that could destroy them all.

Ethan looked at Nora.

“Why now?”

She looked at Lily.

“Because she forgave me.”

Everyone turned.

Lily looked confused.

“When?”

Nora wiped her tears.

“Last night.”

“When everyone was sleeping.”

“She came to me.”

“She said…”

Nora struggled to continue.

“She said she hoped I would become a better person.”

The room went quiet.

A child showed mercy to someone who had failed her.

Something the adults in that room had forgotten how to do.

Then Marcus received a message.

His face changed.

“Sir.”

“What?”

“The trust transfer stopped.”

Everyone froze.

Arthur turned sharply.

“What?”

Marcus looked at the screen.

“It requires one final authorization.”

Arthur smiled.

“Exactly.”

He looked toward Evelyn.

“Her authorization.”

The smile returned.

“Evelyn is the legal heir.”

“If she signs…”

“The company belongs to me.”

Everyone looked at the little girl.

Arthur approached her.

“Evelyn.”

She stepped back.

“No.”

Arthur’s expression darkened.

“You know what happens if you refuse.”

For years, those words had controlled her.

Fear.

Threats.

Punishment.

But this time…

Evelyn looked at Lily.

Then Ethan.

Then Amelia.

And shook her head.

“I’m not your weapon anymore.”

Arthur froze.

Evelyn picked up the document.

Everyone waited.

Then she did something nobody expected.

She tore it in half.

The room exploded.

Arthur’s face turned red.

“You stupid child!”

Ethan immediately moved between them.

But Evelyn did not cry.

She stood beside Lily.

Two girls.

Together.

Arthur stared at them.

And finally understood.

His greatest mistake.

He had created two enemies.

But he accidentally created sisters.

The countdown stopped.

00:00:00

The screen changed.

TRANSFER FAILED

Arthur stepped backward.

“No.”

Victor looked shocked.

“How?”

Marcus smiled.

“Because the system required two signatures.”

Everyone turned.

“What?”

Marcus explained:

“The original Blackwood trust was designed by your grandfather.”

“It could never be transferred by one heir alone.”

“It required the cooperation of all surviving Blackwood descendants.”

Ethan looked at Lily.

Then Evelyn.

Two daughters.

Two heirs.

Together.

Arthur was defeated.

But before anyone could move…

He smiled.

A strange, calm smile.

Because he knew something they didn’t.

“You think this is over?”

Ethan stared.

Arthur whispered:

“You still don’t know who started the fire.”

Silence.

Everyone froze.

Arthur looked directly at Jonathan.

And said:

“Tell him.”

Jonathan’s face turned pale.

Ethan slowly turned toward his father.

Again.

Another secret.

Another lie.

Jonathan whispered:

“The fire…”

A pause.

“Was not meant to kill Amelia.”

Everyone waited.

“Then what was it meant to do?”

Jonathan looked at Ethan.

“It was meant to kill you.”
