Chapter 14 — Isabella’s Confession

Chapter 14 — Isabella’s Confession
For six years, Isabella Moretti had carried a story inside her.
A story she repeated so many times that she eventually stopped knowing where the truth ended and the lie began.
She told herself she was betrayed.
She told herself she was abandoned.
She told herself she was fighting for something that had been stolen from her.
But standing inside that abandoned research facility, surrounded by police officers, detectives, and the people whose lives she had destroyed…
She finally had nowhere left to hide.
The Woman Behind the Lie
Detective Grant brought Isabella to an interview room.
No cameras from the media.
No courtroom audience.
No lawyers whispering instructions.
Just silence.
And the truth.
Marcus sat across from her.
Khloe had wanted to come.
But Marcus refused.
Not because he wanted to protect her.
Because she had already suffered enough.
Isabella looked different.
Not weaker.
Not innocent.
Just exhausted.
“You hate me.”
The first thing she said.
Marcus remained silent.
“You should.”
Still silence.
Finally, Marcus spoke.
“Tell me everything.”
Isabella looked down.
And for the first time in years…
She stopped defending herself.
The Beginning
“I didn’t plan to hurt Khloe.”
Marcus’s expression hardened.
“You attacked my wife.”
Isabella closed her eyes.
“I know.”
A tear fell.
But Marcus did not move.
“I need you to understand something.”
She continued.
“I wasn’t angry because she existed.”
“Then why?”
“Because she proved you moved on.”
The honesty shocked him.
Isabella continued.
“When I lost the baby…”
Marcus interrupted.
“You ended the pregnancy.”
She nodded.
“Yes.”
Her voice became quieter.
“I was young.”
“I was scared.”
“I thought everything in my life was falling apart.”
She looked at him.
“I thought if I removed the problem, the pain would disappear.”
“But it didn’t.”
The Obsession
After the pregnancy ended, Isabella fell into depression.
She isolated herself.
She stopped seeing friends.
She stopped building her own life.
Instead…
She watched Marcus.
Social media.
Public appearances.
News articles.
Then she saw Khloe.
“The first time I saw your wedding photo…”
Her voice shook.
“I felt like my entire life had been replaced.”
Marcus looked away.
“You didn’t replace me.”
“I know that now.”
Isabella whispered.
“But back then, I didn’t.”
Alexander’s Role
Detective Grant leaned forward.
“Tell us about Alexander.”
Isabella took a deep breath.
“He found me when I was broken.”
“What did he say?”
“That Marcus forgot me.”
“That everyone abandoned me.”
“That I deserved justice.”
Marcus looked angry.
“And you believed him?”
“Yes.”
The answer came immediately.
“Because I wanted to.”
She explained.
Alexander never forced her.
That was the most dangerous part.
He gave her exactly what she wanted.
A reason.
A purpose.
A person to blame.
“He told me the hospital records could prove something.”
“Prove what?”
Marcus asked.
“That my child was connected to your family.”
A painful silence.
“But it wasn’t true.”
Isabella shook her head.
“No.”
The Real Plan
“Then why attack Khloe?”
Marcus asked.
Isabella stared at the table.
“Because Alexander told me she was hiding something.”
Marcus frowned.
“What?”
“He said your wife knew the truth about me.”
“That she knew about the past.”
“He convinced me Khloe was protecting you.”
Marcus closed his eyes.
Another manipulation.
Alexander had created enemies where none existed.
“He wanted you angry.”
Isabella said.
“He wanted you to hate me.”
A pause.
“And he wanted me to hate you.”
The Final Secret
Detective Grant placed a document on the table.
“The altered hospital records.”
Isabella looked at them.
Her face changed.
“Yes.”
“You know who changed them?”
A long silence.
Then:
“Yes.”
Marcus leaned forward.
“Who?”
Isabella looked terrified.
Not of police.
Not of prison.
Of the person she was about to name.
“Your father.”
The room froze.
Marcus stared.
“What?”
“My father?”
Isabella nodded.
“No.”
She corrected herself.
“Your father’s company.”
The Forgotten Scandal
Years earlier, before Marcus knew anything about Isabella’s pregnancy…
His family’s medical company had faced a hidden scandal.
A research error.
A patient injury.
A lawsuit that disappeared.
Alexander’s daughter had been connected to that scandal.
But someone covered it up.
And the person who helped bury it…
Was Marcus’s father.
Marcus felt numb.
“So Alexander wasn’t just angry because of me.”
“No.”
Isabella whispered.
“He wanted revenge against your entire family.”
The pieces finally connected.
The attack on Khloe.
The fake records.
The manipulation.
The obsession.
It had all been built on an old wound.
But there was still one question.
“Why my baby?”
Marcus asked.
Isabella looked at him.
“Because Alexander believed destroying your future was the only way you would understand his pain.”
The Apology
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then Isabella said:
“I am sorry.”
Marcus looked at her.
Not because he forgave her.
Not yet.
But because he finally saw something.
Isabella was not the mastermind.
She was a weapon.
A dangerous weapon.
A weapon that still chose to hurt people.
“You hurt my wife.”
Marcus said.
“You almost killed my daughter.”
Isabella nodded.
“I know.”
“You have to face what you did.”
“I will.”
For once…
Marcus believed her.
As Isabella was taken away, Detective Grant approached Marcus.
“There’s one problem.”
Marcus looked at her.
“What?”
“Alexander’s records show someone else accessed the files before him.”
Marcus felt his stomach tighten.
“Someone else?”
Detective Grant nodded.
“Someone inside your family.”
The hallway suddenly felt colder.
Because Alexander Hale had been exposed.
Isabella had confessed.
The truth had finally surfaced.
But the final secret remained.
Someone had helped create the entire nightmare.
May you like
Someone who was still free.
