CHAPTER 13 — THE LAST THORNE SECRET

THE BILLIONAIRE’S WIFE THEY TRIED TO DESTROY

CHAPTER 13 — THE LAST THORNE SECRET

The truth had a strange way of returning.

It did not knock.

It did not ask permission.

It waited.

Sometimes for years.

Sometimes for decades.

And when it finally appeared...

it destroyed everything built on top of the lie.

Adrian Thorne stood in the entrance of the mansion like a ghost from another life.

Marcus couldn't move.

Not because he was afraid.

Because his mind was trying to understand something impossible.

A brother.

A secret heir.

A man his father erased from existence.

Richard Thorne had spent years teaching Marcus one lesson.

Never show weakness.

Never trust anyone completely.

Never let emotions control decisions.

But standing there...

looking at the man who carried his father's cruelty on his face...

Marcus realized something.

Richard had never been teaching him how to survive.

He had been teaching him how to become him.

"Why are you here?"

Marcus finally asked.

Adrian looked at him.

Not with hatred.

That surprised Marcus.

With exhaustion.

"Because it's time."

Khloe stepped closer.

"Time for what?"

Adrian looked at her.

"The truth."

Those words had become dangerous inside the Thorne family.

Everyone claimed to want the truth.

Until the truth threatened them.

They moved into the study.

The same room where Richard had spent decades making decisions that affected thousands of lives.

The same room where Marcus had once believed his father was untouchable.

Now it belonged to the ghosts he created.

Adrian placed an old envelope on the desk.

"The last thing my mother gave me."

Marcus looked at it.

"Your mother?"

Adrian nodded.

"Before she died."

Marcus hesitated.

"Who was she?"

Adrian looked at the portrait hanging above the fireplace.

A picture of Richard Thorne with his first wife.

"Her name was Victoria."

Marcus stared.

"My mother."

The room became silent.

Marcus knew about Victoria.

Everyone in the family did.

Richard's first wife.

A woman who died before Marcus was born.

A woman whose story was always carefully avoided.

"But she had a son."

Marcus whispered.

Adrian nodded.

"Me."

"Why did everyone say you didn't exist?"

Adrian smiled bitterly.

"Because your father decided I didn't."

He opened the envelope.

Inside were documents.

Birth certificates.

Financial records.

Letters.

Evidence.

"My mother discovered what Richard was doing."

Marcus looked at the papers.

"Thorne Industries?"

"Everything."

Adrian's voice became colder.

"The hidden accounts."

"The stolen money."

"The people he destroyed."

Khloe looked at him.

"And your mother tried to expose him."

Adrian nodded.

"She failed."

The silence that followed was heavier than any accusation.

"What happened to her?"

Marcus asked.

Adrian looked away.

"Your father called it an accident."

Marcus felt sick.

The same word.

The same excuse.

The same pattern.

"My mother died in a car crash."

A pause.

"But before she died, she hid the evidence."

Adrian tapped the envelope.

"And she hid me."

Marcus looked at him.

"You were alive this entire time?"

"Yes."

"Why didn't you come back?"

Adrian's expression changed.

"Because your father made sure I couldn't."

The room grew colder.

"How?"

Adrian looked directly at Marcus.

"He destroyed my identity."

Marcus didn't understand.

"He erased every record connecting me to the Thorne family."

"He made sure I had no inheritance."

"No legal name."

"No protection."

Adrian laughed quietly.

"Your father didn't kill me."

A pause.

"He did something worse."

Marcus waited.

"He made the world believe I never existed."

Those words hit Marcus harder than expected.

Because they sounded familiar.

Khloe understood first.

"They tried to do the same thing to you."

Adrian looked at her.

"What?"

She looked at Marcus.

"Your father didn't just control people."

"He erased them."

Marcus remembered.

The missing employees.

The destroyed careers.

The people who challenged Richard.

The people nobody talked about.

Richard Thorne's greatest weapon was not murder.

It was disappearance.

That evening, Daniel arrived with new information.

"Marcus."

His expression was serious.

"We found Richard."

Everyone turned.

"Where?"

Daniel placed a tablet on the table.

"Private property outside the city."

Marcus stared.

"Is he alone?"

Daniel hesitated.

"No."

A bad feeling moved through Marcus.

"Who is with him?"

Daniel answered:

"Someone we thought was working against him."

The screen showed a security image.

A woman entering the property.

Khloe froze.

"No."

Marcus looked at her.

"Who is it?"

Her face became pale.

Because she recognized her.

"It can't be."

Marcus looked at the screen.

And his heart dropped.

Charlotte Thorne.

His sister.

The woman who claimed she was forced.

The woman who gave him the evidence.

The woman who said she wanted the truth.

She was standing beside Richard.

Adrian watched Marcus carefully.

"Your family has one more secret."

Marcus looked at him.

"What?"

Adrian's voice lowered.

"Charlotte wasn't just protecting herself."

A pause.

"She was protecting him."

Marcus felt anger rise.

"Who?"

Adrian looked at him.

"Richard's final weapon."

Before anyone could speak, the mansion security alarm activated.

A message appeared on Marcus's phone.

From Richard.

One sentence.

YOU ALWAYS THOUGHT I WAS BUILDING AN EMPIRE.

Another message followed.

I WAS BUILDING A SUCCESSOR.

Marcus stared.

Then the final message appeared.

AND YOU WERE NEVER THE ONE I CHOSE.

The screen went black.

For years, Marcus believed his greatest battle was against his father's enemies.

Then he believed it was against Isabella.

Then he believed it was against a hidden heir.

But now he understood.

All of them were pieces of the same game.

Richard Thorne had not created an empire.

He had created a system.

A system where people fought each other while he controlled everything from the shadows.

And somewhere inside that system...

he had prepared someone to replace Marcus.

The last Thorne secret was not about money.

Not about power.

Not even about revenge.

It was about inheritance.

And Marcus was about to discover the most painful truth of all.

The empire he spent his entire life protecting...

May you like

was never meant to belong to him.
