CHAPTER 15 — THE WAR FOR THE THRONE

THE BILLIONAIRE’S WIFE THEY TRIED TO DESTROY
CHAPTER 15 — THE WAR FOR THE THRONE
Power had always been Richard Thorne’s favorite weapon.
Not money.
Not influence.
Not even fear.
Power.
The ability to make people believe they had no choice.
For decades, Richard controlled the Thorne empire because everyone around him believed one thing:
Without him, everything would collapse.
The company.
The family.
The legacy.
But they were wrong.
The empire did not survive because of Richard Thorne.
It survived despite him.
The shareholder meeting was the largest gathering Thorne Industries had seen in years.
Executives.
Investors.
Lawyers.
Media representatives.
Everyone wanted to see the battle.
The billionaire family destroying itself from the inside.
At the center of the room sat Marcus Thorne.
The son everyone knew.
The heir everyone expected.
The man who had spent his entire life preparing to inherit the empire.
Across from him sat Alexander Thorne.
The son nobody knew existed.
The heir hidden in the shadows.
The man Richard had protected and erased at the same time.
The irony was not lost on Marcus.
Two brothers.
Two victims.
Fighting over something neither of them truly wanted.
The chairman of the board stood.
"Today, we will determine the future leadership of Thorne Industries."
The room became silent.
"Following the discoveries regarding Mr. Richard Thorne, ownership and succession rights are under review."
A lawyer approached the table.
"We have two claims."
He looked at Marcus.
"Mr. Marcus Thorne, current CEO and legal heir."
Then Alexander.
"Mr. Alexander Thorne, first-born son of Richard Thorne."
Whispers spread throughout the room.
Marcus watched Alexander carefully.
The man did not look like someone trying to steal.
He looked like someone tired of being hunted.
The lawyer continued.
"Under the original Thorne family trust, the first-born child has priority succession rights."
The room reacted.
Marcus felt the weight of the words.
First-born.
A title.
A weapon.
A way to erase everything he had accomplished.
Then Alexander spoke.
"I don't want the company."
Everyone looked at him.
The chairman frowned.
"Mr. Thorne, you are aware of what you are saying?"
"Yes."
Alexander looked around the room.
"I spent my entire life watching people fight for this."
A pause.
"And I learned something."
"What?"
"Everyone who wanted the throne became a prisoner of it."
Marcus looked at him.
Because he understood.
The chairman turned toward Marcus.
"Then what is your position?"
Marcus stood.
For years, he would have answered differently.
He would have talked about growth.
Market expansion.
Profit.
The language of business.
But not anymore.
"My position is that Thorne Industries needs to stop being controlled by one family."
The room went silent.
Several executives exchanged looks.
"You are suggesting restructuring?"
Marcus nodded.
"Yes."
A board member laughed.
"You want to give up control of the empire your father built?"
Marcus looked at him.
"No."
A pause.
"I want to stop pretending this empire belongs to one man."
Meanwhile, outside the meeting room, someone watched.
Richard Thorne.
Alive.
Hidden.
Smiling.
He had expected anger.
He had expected his children to destroy each other.
Instead...
they were standing together.
That irritated him more than losing the company.
Because Richard understood money.
He understood ambition.
He understood greed.
But he never understood loyalty.
Inside the meeting, Daniel entered suddenly.
His expression was serious.
"Marcus."
Everyone turned.
"What happened?"
Daniel handed him a document.
Marcus read it.
His face changed.
"What is this?"
Daniel lowered his voice.
"Proof that Richard planned everything."
The room became tense.
"Everything?"
Daniel nodded.
"The attack on Khloe."
"The Isabella situation."
"The succession conflict."
"All of it."
Marcus looked at Alexander.
"You knew?"
Alexander shook his head.
"No."
Daniel continued.
"Richard created a trust fund years ago."
"What kind of trust?"
"A control trust."
The lawyer took the document.
His expression changed.
"Impossible."
Marcus looked at him.
"What?"
The lawyer swallowed.
"Richard didn't create a succession plan."
A pause.
"He created a competition."
The room became silent.
The document explained everything.
The heir who proved themselves ruthless would gain control.
The child who destroyed the others would win.
Richard's final test.
Marcus felt disgust.
"He wanted us to become him."
Alexander looked down.
"Yes."
For the first time, the two brothers shared the same emotion.
Not anger.
Pain.
Their father never wanted sons.
He wanted weapons.
Then the doors opened.
Everyone turned.
Charlotte entered.
But she wasn't alone.
Behind her were federal investigators.
The room exploded with whispers.
Marcus stared.
"Charlotte?"
She looked at him.
"I found him."
A cold silence followed.
"Who?"
Charlotte stepped aside.
And Richard Thorne walked into the room.
The man who had controlled everything from the shadows.
The man who believed nobody could touch him.
For the first time...
he looked old.
The investigators surrounded him.
Richard looked at Marcus.
"You did this?"
Marcus stared.
"No."
A pause.
"You did."
Richard smiled faintly.
"You still don't understand."
Marcus frowned.
"What?"
Richard looked around the room.
"Everything I did was to prepare you."
Marcus almost laughed.
"Prepare me for what?"
Richard's eyes moved toward Khloe.
Then the documents.
Then Alexander.
"To survive."
Marcus stepped closer.
"You destroyed everyone around you."
Richard remained calm.
"Because weakness destroys empires."
Marcus looked at him.
Then said:
"No."
The room became silent.
"Weakness destroys people."
A pause.
"But people are what create empires."
For the first time...
Richard had no answer.
As investigators escorted him away, Marcus watched his father disappear.
The man who had controlled his entire life.
Gone.
But the war was not over.
Because after Richard left...
the chairman received one final message.
A message from an unknown sender.
RICHARD THORNE WAS NEVER THE FINAL PLAYER.
Everyone froze.
Marcus looked at Alexander.
Khloe looked at Marcus.
Another secret.
Another enemy.
Another shadow.
But this time, Marcus was not alone.
The Thorne brothers stood together.
Not as rivals.
As survivors.
And whoever was coming next...
would not be fighting a divided family.
May you like
They would be fighting a united one.
