Chapter 11 – The Betrayal Inside Westwood

Chapter 11 – The Betrayal Inside Westwood
The call ended.
But Caleb’s final words remained.
“She wanted you killed.”
Adrian stood in the empty warehouse, staring at his phone.
For a moment, he could not move.
Could not think.
Could not accept what he had heard.
His mother.
The woman who held his hand when he was a child.
The woman who told him every night that family was everything.
Had she really ordered someone to kill him?
Or was Caleb lying?
That was the cruelest part.
After three years surrounded by secrets, Adrian no longer knew who deserved his trust.
The Return to the Mansion
The Westwood mansion looked different when Adrian returned.
It was still the same house.
The same marble floors.
The same paintings.
The same expensive furniture.
But now he saw what Claire had seen.
A beautiful house built on hidden rooms.
A powerful family built on buried secrets.
Rachel followed him inside.
“You don’t have to face this alone.”
Adrian nodded.
But his eyes remained fixed on the staircase.
“Claire did.”
Rachel understood.
“That’s why you’re angry.”
“No.”
Adrian’s voice was quiet.
“I’m angry because she was right.”
Margaret’s Confession
Margaret was waiting in the library.
She looked older.
Not physically.
Something deeper.
Fear had finally reached her.
“You found Evelyn.”
Adrian closed the door behind him.
“Yes.”
His mother closed her eyes.
“Then everything is over.”
The sentence shocked him.
Not denial.
Not anger.
Acceptance.
“Tell me the truth.”
Margaret looked at him.
“I have spent years trying to protect this family.”
“No.”
Adrian shook his head.
“You spent years protecting a lie.”
Pain crossed her face.
“Your father built everything.”
“And destroyed people to do it.”
“He made mistakes.”
“Mistakes?”
Adrian laughed bitterly.
“People died.”
Margaret looked away.
“Your father believed sacrifices were necessary.”
“And you believed him?”
A long silence.
Then:
“Yes.”
The answer hurt more than he expected.
The Black Ledger
Adrian placed the photograph of Claire on the table.
“Where is the ledger?”
Margaret’s expression changed.
She knew exactly what he meant.
“You don’t understand what that book contains.”
“Then explain.”
“It contains names.”
“Whose names?”
Margaret whispered:
“Everyone.”
She walked toward the window.
“Politicians. Judges. Investors. Police officials.”
Adrian stared.
“And my father controlled them?”
“Not all.”
A pause.
“Some controlled him.”
That was the first time Adrian realized something.
Richard Westwood had not created a machine.
He had become part of one.
The Person Behind the Family
“Who is the person behind all this?”
Adrian asked.
Margaret did not answer.
“Mom.”
Her hands tightened.
“I don’t know.”
“You’re lying.”
“No.”
She turned.
“I know who continued your father’s work.”
“Who?”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Your brother.”
Caleb’s Secret
Adrian left the library immediately.
He found Caleb in the old study.
The room where their father used to work.
Caleb looked exhausted.
“You know.”
Adrian stopped.
“You’re not even surprised?”
Caleb laughed quietly.
“After everything? No.”
“Why?”
The question came out louder than Adrian intended.
“Why did you betray Claire?”
Caleb looked down.
“I didn’t.”
“Don’t lie.”
“I didn’t kill her.”
A pause.
“But I helped hide the truth.”
Adrian felt his chest tighten.
“Why?”
“Because I was scared.”
The Brother Who Was Afraid
Caleb finally broke.
“Do you remember when Dad died?”
Adrian frowned.
“Yes.”
“Everyone thought he left us the company.”
Caleb smiled sadly.
“He left us a prison.”
Richard had left instructions.
Contacts.
Secrets.
Threats.
Caleb was young.
Only twenty-three.
He had no idea what he inherited.
“People started coming to me.”
Caleb whispered.
“People who knew Dad.”
“What did they want?”
“Money.”
“And if you refused?”
Caleb looked at him.
“They reminded me what happened to people who refused.”
Claire’s Mistake
Adrian looked away.
“Claire found out.”
“Yes.”
“She came to you.”
“Yes.”
“Why didn’t you help her?”
Caleb’s eyes filled with regret.
“Because I thought I could control it.”
Adrian said nothing.
“I thought I could protect everyone.”
“But you protected yourself.”
Caleb nodded.
“Yes.”
The honesty made it worse.
The Final Betrayal
Then Caleb said something unexpected.
“Adrian.”
“What?”
“The person who ordered the accident…”
He hesitated.
“Was not Mom.”
Adrian froze.
“Then who?”
Caleb looked toward the door.
Fear appeared on his face.
“Someone who has been standing beside us the entire time.”
Before Adrian could ask, the lights went out.
The entire mansion fell into darkness.
A sound echoed.
A gunshot.
Everyone froze.
Then a body fell.
Not Adrian.
Caleb.
“Caleb!”
Adrian rushed forward.
His brother collapsed against him.
Blood spread across his shirt.
Rachel immediately called emergency services.
Adrian held Caleb’s hand.
“Who did this?”
Caleb struggled to speak.
His lips moved.
One word.
A name.
Adrian leaned closer.
“What?”
Caleb whispered:
“Madison…”
Adrian froze.
The room went silent.
Madison stood at the entrance.
Her face was pale.
“No.”
Everyone turned.
She shook her head.
“I didn’t.”
But then Rachel noticed something.
A small object on the floor beside Madison.
A gun.
And on the handle…
The Westwood family seal.
Adrian stared at Madison.
The woman who claimed she was helping Claire.
The woman who claimed she was afraid.
The woman who had been hiding secrets for three years.
Was she the final betrayal?
Or was someone setting her up?
Because before losing consciousness, Caleb whispered one more sentence.
Something only Adrian heard.
“Don’t trust the gun.”
