Chapter 12 – The Final Threat

Chapter 12 – The Final Threat

The gunshot echoed through the Westwood mansion long after the bullet stopped moving.

For several seconds, nobody reacted.

Nobody understood.

The world had frozen.

Then Rachel shouted.

“Call an ambulance!”

The house exploded into movement.

Footsteps.

Panic.

Voices.

But Adrian heard only one thing.

Caleb’s final whisper.

“Don’t trust the gun.”

The Accused Woman

Madison stood near the doorway.

Frozen.

Terrified.

Everyone was looking at her.

The same way everyone had looked at her during the engagement party.

Suspicion.

Judgment.

Fear.

Margaret’s voice cut through the chaos.

“Security!”

Adrian turned sharply.

“Mom, wait.”

Margaret looked at him.

“You saw what happened.”

“No.”

Adrian shook his head.

“I saw a gun.”

His eyes moved toward Madison.

“I did not see her fire it.”

Madison looked at him in disbelief.

After everything…

After all the secrets…

He still gave her a chance.

Rachel examined the weapon carefully.

“Don’t touch it.”

She looked around the room.

“Something is wrong.”

The Gun That Lied

Rachel crouched near the weapon.

“Adrian.”

“What?”

“This gun belongs to the Westwoods.”

Margaret looked shocked.

“That is impossible.”

Rachel looked at her.

“Why?”

Margaret hesitated.

Because she knew.

“The family collection was locked.”

“How many people had access?”

Silence.

Then:

Adrian.

Caleb.

Margaret.

And one more person.

Rachel looked toward Madison.

“Did you?”

Madison shook her head immediately.

“No.”

But Adrian noticed something.

Fear.

Not guilt.

Fear.

Caleb’s Survival

At the hospital, the doctors fought to save Caleb.

The bullet had missed his heart.

Barely.

Adrian waited outside the emergency room.

Three hours.

Four hours.

Nobody spoke.

Finally, the doctor appeared.

“He’s alive.”

Adrian closed his eyes.

Relief.

But only for a moment.

Because the truth was still waiting.

The Hidden Message

Before surgery, Caleb had managed to leave something behind.

A note.

Hidden inside Adrian’s jacket.

Rachel found it.

Three words.

“Look at Madison.”

Adrian stared.

The meaning was unclear.

Was Caleb accusing her?

Or warning him?

Madison’s Truth

Madison finally spoke.

“I need to tell you something.”

They sat in the hospital waiting room.

Adrian remained silent.

Madison looked exhausted.

“I lied.”

Adrian looked at her.

“About what?”

“About Claire.”

The words hurt.

“What did you lie about?”

Madison took a deep breath.

“I told you Claire trusted me completely.”

A pause.

“She didn’t.”

The Last Fight Between Claire and Madison

Madison revealed the truth.

Two days before Claire died, they had a terrible argument.

Claire discovered Madison had hidden information.

“What information?”

Adrian asked.

Madison lowered her head.

“That your father was still alive.”

Adrian froze.

“What?”

Madison nodded.

“Claire found evidence that Richard Westwood survived.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because Claire asked me not to.”

Adrian stared.

“Why?”

Madison whispered:

“Because she believed you were in danger.”

The Man Behind Richard

Madison continued.

“Claire discovered your father was not working alone.”

“The person controlling everything.”

“Yes.”

“Who?”

Madison looked at him.

“Someone who knew Claire better than anyone.”

Adrian felt cold.

“No.”

Madison nodded.

“Yes.”

The Final Recording

Madison handed him a second flash drive.

“I found this after Claire died.”

Adrian stared.

“Where?”

“In her office.”

“Why hide it?”

Madison’s eyes filled.

“Because I was afraid.”

They opened the file.

Claire appeared again.

This time, she looked angry.

Not afraid.

“Adrian.”

“If you are watching this, then someone finally found what I hid.”

She paused.

“I need you to understand something.”

“The person responsible for everything is not someone outside this family.”

Adrian leaned closer.

Claire continued.

“They know our routines.”

“They know our secrets.”

“They know exactly how to hurt us.”

A pause.

Then Claire said:

“The person who destroyed my life was someone I once considered family.”

The video shook.

Claire looked toward the door.

Someone was approaching.

Her expression changed.

Fear.

“Wait…”

The recording ended.

The Unexpected Visitor

The hospital lights flickered.

Adrian looked up.

A nurse stood at the entrance.

“Mr. Westwood?”

“Yes?”

“There is someone here to see you.”

“Who?”

The nurse hesitated.

“She said her name is Claire Westwood.”

Adrian stood instantly.

Impossible.

His heart stopped.

“That’s not possible.”

The nurse looked confused.

“She insisted.”

Slowly…

A woman stepped into the hallway.

Everyone froze.

Because she had Claire’s face.

Not a photograph.

Not a memory.

A living person.

Adrian could not breathe.

“Claire?”

The woman looked at him.

Tears filled her eyes.

“Adrian…”

A whisper.

“I’m sorry.”

The world disappeared.

Because the woman he buried three years ago…

Was standing in front of him.

Rachel reached for her phone.

Madison stepped back in shock.

Margaret collapsed into a chair.

And Adrian could only stare.

Because one impossible truth changed everything.

Claire Westwood was alive.

And if Claire was alive…

Then whose body had been buried three years ago?

May you like
