Chapter 1

Chapter 1

The Woman Dragged Across the Marble Floor

The Solmere Hotel had always been a symbol of power.

Not comfort.

Not hospitality.

Power.

Every corner of the grand lobby was designed to remind visitors that they were standing somewhere reserved for the elite.

The ceiling stretched three stories high, covered with hand-painted artwork imported from Europe.

Massive crystal chandeliers reflected against polished white marble floors.

Rare flowers filled the air with an expensive fragrance.

And behind the reception desk stood employees trained to recognize the difference between someone who belonged...

And someone who did not.

That morning, everyone believed they knew exactly who belonged.

Business executives.

Famous investors.

Celebrities.

Politicians.

People whose names appeared in magazines.

People who never had to ask permission to enter a room.

Then the screaming began.

"Get out!"

The voice was sharp enough to cut through the entire lobby.

Everyone turned.

A young woman in a simple gray tank top and worn jeans was lying on the marble floor.

Her dark hair was messy.

Her hands were scratched.

A bruise covered the side of her face.

And standing above her was Victoria Ashford.

Victoria looked like she had stepped out of a luxury fashion magazine.

Her white silk gown cost more than most people earned in a year.

Her diamond earrings caught the chandelier light.

Her perfectly styled blonde hair did not move.

Not even when she grabbed Charlotte Vale's arm.

"Did you hear me?"

Victoria tightened her grip.

"I said leave."

The young woman tried to pull herself up.

"I have the right to be here."

The entire lobby became silent.

A few guests exchanged amused looks.

The poor girl was clearly out of place.

At least...

That was what they thought.

Victoria laughed.

"The right?"

She looked around.

"Everyone, did you hear that?"

She wanted an audience.

She always wanted an audience.

"This woman walked into the Solmere Hotel pretending she belonged here."

Charlotte looked at the crowd.

Nobody helped.

Nobody questioned.

Nobody asked why a wealthy woman was attacking someone on the ground.

They only watched.

That was the cruelest part.

Not the pain.

Not the humiliation.

The silence.

Victoria leaned closer.

"People like you always think you can enter places like this."

"People like me?"

Charlotte asked quietly.

Victoria smiled.

"Don't pretend you don't know what I mean."

She looked at Charlotte's clothes.

Her simple shoes.

Her lack of jewelry.

Her ordinary appearance.

"You don't have the name."

"You don't have the money."

"You don't have the status."

Victoria grabbed her arm again.

"You are nothing."

The words would have broken many people.

But Charlotte Vale had spent the last six months preparing for this moment.

Because she knew something nobody else in the room knew.

The woman insulting her was standing inside a building that belonged to her.

Charlotte Vale.

The only daughter of Alexander Vale.

The founder of the Solmere Empire.

The man whose name had once controlled hotels, resorts, restaurants, and luxury properties across the world.

A year ago, Charlotte had been known as the future of the Vale family.

The next person expected to lead the empire.

Then her mother died.

And everything changed.

The official story was simple.

Her mother, Evelyn Vale, suffered a sudden illness.

The family mourned.

The company continued.

The board appointed temporary leadership.

And Charlotte disappeared from public life.

But Charlotte knew the truth.

Her mother had not simply died.

She had discovered something.

Something dangerous.

Three weeks before her death, Evelyn sent Charlotte a message.

Only five words.

"Trust no one in Solmere."

At first, Charlotte thought it was fear.

Grief.

Paranoia.

Then she found the hidden files.

Financial transfers.

Private contracts.

Secret meetings.

Documents showing that people closest to her family had been slowly stealing control of the company.

The people who promised to protect the Vale legacy...

Were the people destroying it.

The worst part?

Charlotte's own identity had been erased.

Her legal records were altered.

Her ownership shares were transferred.

The world was told Charlotte Vale had abandoned the empire.

And while everyone believed she was gone...

Someone else took her place.

Victoria Ashford.

The woman standing over her.

The woman who believed she was untouchable.

Victoria was not the owner of Solmere.

But she was married to the man currently controlling it.

Richard Ashford.

The temporary CEO.

The man who had been her father's closest advisor.

The man Charlotte once trusted.

Charlotte had returned to uncover the truth.

Not as an heiress.

Not as a billionaire.

As an ordinary woman.

Because she needed to know one thing.

Who would tell the truth when they thought she had nothing?

And now she had her answer.

Nobody.

Victoria pulled her toward the entrance.

"I will not allow someone like you to damage the reputation of this hotel."

Charlotte looked at her.

"Your reputation?"

Victoria stopped.

"What did you say?"

Charlotte smiled slightly.

"The reputation of this hotel was built before you ever entered this building."

The expression on Victoria's face changed.

Only for a second.

But Charlotte noticed.

A small crack in the perfect mask.

"You are very confident for someone who is about to be removed by security."

Victoria waved her hand.

Two guards approached.

Charlotte did not resist.

That surprised everyone.

She simply allowed them to come closer.

Because she was waiting.

Waiting for one person.

The elevator doors opened.

A man stepped out.

The entire lobby immediately changed.

Employees stood straighter.

Guests lowered their voices.

Because everyone recognized him.

Richard Ashford.

CEO of Solmere.

Victoria's husband.

The man who had taken control after Evelyn Vale's death.

Victoria smiled.

"Darling."

She walked toward him.

"This woman broke into the hotel and caused a scene."

Richard looked at Charlotte.

For a moment...

His expression changed.

Only slightly.

But Charlotte saw it.

Recognition.

Fear.

He knew her.

"Who is she?" Richard asked.

Victoria laughed.

"Nobody important."

Nobody important.

The words echoed.

Because they were exactly what Charlotte expected.

Richard approached.

"Remove her."

The guards reached for Charlotte.

Then Charlotte slowly reached into her worn bag.

She removed a small black folder.

And placed it on the reception desk.

"I think before you remove me..."

"You should look at this."

Richard frowned.

"What is that?"

Charlotte opened the folder.

Inside was a document.

An official document.

Stamped.

Signed.

Impossible to ignore.

The receptionist picked it up first.

Her face changed.

Then another employee looked.

Then another.

Victoria noticed.

"What is it?"

Nobody answered.

Richard grabbed the paper.

His face became completely pale.

Because at the top of the document were four words:

Solmere Empire Ownership Transfer

And beneath it...

The name of the rightful owner.

Charlotte Vale.

The lobby became silent.

The same people who had watched her being dragged across the marble floor now stared at her differently.

Victoria stepped back.

"No."

Her voice was barely a whisper.

"No, that's impossible."

Charlotte looked at her.

The woman who had called her worthless.

The woman who had humiliated her.

The woman who had forgotten one important fact.

Power was not always loud.

Sometimes it walked into a room wearing old clothes.

Sometimes it stood quietly while everyone underestimated it.

Charlotte picked up the document.

"My name is Charlotte Vale."

"I am the legal owner of the Solmere Empire."

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Then Charlotte looked directly at Richard.

"And I would like to know..."

"Why my company is being managed by people who tried to erase me."

Richard's face lost all color.

Because he understood.

The game was over.

Or at least...

That was what Charlotte believed.

Because behind Richard's fear...

Behind Victoria's anger...

Behind the stolen empire...

Was a secret even Charlotte did not know.

A secret her mother died trying to reveal.

And somewhere inside the Solmere Empire...

May you like

Someone was preparing to make sure Charlotte Vale never lived long enough to reclaim it.

To be continued...
