Chapter 7

Chapter 7
The Mother’s Final Message
The darkness swallowed everything.
The hidden floor of Solmere Hotel became a world without time.
No lights.
No signals.
No way out.
Only the sound of breathing.
Charlotte stood completely still.
Her mind was racing.
Richard knew they were here.
He knew about the hidden floor.
He knew they had found the archives.
But the question that frightened her most was not how Richard found them.
It was this:
Who was trapped inside with them?
The emergency lights flickered once.
Then again.
A faint red glow spread through the corridor.
Charlotte looked around.
Thomas stood near the locked door, trying to force the control panel open.
Victoria remained several steps away.
And at the end of the hallway...
A shadow moved.
"Who is there?"
Charlotte called.
No answer.
The figure stepped forward.
Slowly.
Charlotte's hand tightened.
She was ready for anything.
Then the person entered the red light.
And Charlotte froze.
"Impossible..."
The man standing before her was older.
His hair was gray.
His face carried years of regret.
But she knew him.
"Martin."
Martin Cole.
Her father's closest friend.
The man who had attended every family event.
The man who had helped raise her after Alexander died.
The man her mother trusted.
Thomas stared.
"Martin?"
Martin looked at Charlotte.
His eyes filled with sadness.
"I hoped you would never find this place."
Charlotte felt something inside her break.
Not anger.
Not surprise.
Disappointment.
Because somehow...
She already knew.
"You knew."
Her voice was quiet.
Martin looked down.
"You knew everything."
Silence.
Victoria closed her eyes.
She had known too.
Charlotte stepped closer.
"Did you help Richard?"
Martin did not answer.
That was enough.
The person who had comforted her after her father's death.
The person who told her she was safe.
The person who promised her she would always have family.
Had been part of the reason she lost everything.
"Why?"
Charlotte whispered.
Martin looked at her.
"I never wanted this."
"Everyone says that."
"I didn't."
His voice cracked.
"I didn't want your family destroyed."
"Then why did you let it happen?"
Martin looked at the hidden archive around them.
"Because I was trying to save it."
Charlotte laughed bitterly.
"Save it?"
"You helped steal it."
"No."
Martin shook his head.
"I tried to stop Richard."
The words surprised everyone.
Thomas stepped forward.
"Then explain."
Martin took a deep breath.
"Your mother discovered Richard was moving against the family."
Charlotte listened carefully.
"She came to me because she trusted me."
"She asked me to help protect you."
Charlotte's expression changed.
"Then why didn't you?"
Martin closed his eyes.
"Because Richard knew."
The room became silent.
"He knew Evelyn was investigating."
Martin continued.
"He knew she had found evidence."
"How?"
Charlotte asked.
Martin looked at Victoria.
"Because someone told him."
Victoria looked away.
Charlotte noticed.
"Victoria?"
"No."
Victoria immediately answered.
"No, I didn't betray her."
Martin nodded.
"I know."
"Then who?"
Nobody spoke.
Because the answer was still hidden.
Martin reached into his coat.
He pulled out a small device.
"Your mother left this for you."
Charlotte stared.
"What is it?"
"The last message."
Her heartbeat increased.
"Why didn't you give it to me before?"
Martin looked ashamed.
"Because Richard threatened me."
"With what?"
Martin looked at the floor.
"With the truth about my son."
Charlotte frowned.
"Your son?"
Before Martin could answer, the lights suddenly returned.
The security system restarted.
A screen on the wall activated.
A video file appeared.
EVELYN VALE - FINAL RECORDING
Charlotte stopped breathing.
Her mother.
After all this time.
A message she was never supposed to see.
She pressed play.
The screen showed Evelyn sitting in her private office.
Her face was pale.
Her voice was tired.
But her eyes were determined.
"Charlotte."
Charlotte immediately felt tears forming.
"If you are watching this, then something happened to me."
A pause.
"I wish I could have protected you longer."
Charlotte covered her mouth.
Her mother's voice continued.
"You may believe the people around you betrayed you."
"Some did."
"But not everyone."
Evelyn looked directly into the camera.
"Charlotte, there is something you must understand."
"Solmere was never just a company."
"It was a promise."
The screen changed.
Showing old images of the first Solmere hotel.
"My father built Solmere during a difficult time."
"He believed luxury should not only belong to powerful people."
"He wanted a place where ordinary people could experience extraordinary things."
Charlotte listened.
Because she had never heard this story.
"Over time, people forgot the purpose."
"They saw only money."
"They saw only power."
"And that is when the empire began to rot."
Evelyn looked sad.
"Richard understood the weakness of Solmere."
"He knew people would fight over ownership."
"So he created a war."
Charlotte looked at Martin.
"But Richard was not alone."
Evelyn's expression became serious.
"There was someone else."
A pause.
"Someone I loved."
Charlotte froze.
Her mother had said those words before.
Someone you love.
"Charlotte..."
Evelyn whispered.
"The greatest danger is not the person who wants your company."
"It is the person who wants you to believe you are alone."
The video paused.
Then Evelyn revealed a hidden file.
"This contains the original inheritance agreement."
A document appeared.
"The real reason your father created the succession plan."
Charlotte leaned closer.
"Your father knew one day Solmere might be attacked from within."
"So he created a final condition."
The screen displayed a sentence.
THE TRUE HEIR MUST REBUILD WHAT WAS BROKEN, NOT SIMPLY CLAIM WHAT WAS STOLEN.
Charlotte stared.
It was not about wealth.
It was about proving she understood the responsibility.
Then Evelyn continued.
"But there is one more thing."
Her voice became softer.
"Adrian knows part of the truth."
Charlotte looked surprised.
"But he does not know everything."
A pause.
"Because Adrian was also manipulated."
The room went silent.
Even Adrian's name carried a different meaning now.
Evelyn looked into the camera.
"Charlotte, if Adrian returns..."
"Listen before you judge."
Charlotte felt confused.
Her mother had feared Adrian.
But she also wanted Charlotte to understand him.
Then came the final sentence.
"The person who destroyed our family..."
Evelyn's eyes filled with tears.
"Is the person who convinced us they were protecting it."
The screen went black.
Nobody spoke.
The message ended.
But one thing remained.
A mystery.
Who had convinced the Vale family they were safe?
Charlotte slowly turned.
Her eyes moved across everyone in the room.
Thomas.
Victoria.
Martin.
Three people connected to her family.
Three people carrying secrets.
Then she noticed something.
The hidden archive contained one more file.
A file that had appeared after the video ended.
CONFIDENTIAL - PATERNITY RECORDS
Charlotte frowned.
"What is this?"
Martin's face changed.
Not fear.
Panic.
"Don't open that."
Charlotte looked at him.
"Why?"
Martin said nothing.
And that silence told her everything.
The greatest secret her mother protected was not about Solmere.
It was about Charlotte herself.
Her birth.
Her blood.
Her identity.
Charlotte opened the file.
The first line appeared.
CHARLOTTE VALE - BIOLOGICAL RECORDS
Then another name appeared.
A name that made the entire room fall silent.
Because the truth hidden for decades...
May you like
Was about to destroy everything they thought they knew.
To be continued...
