Chapter 6

Chapter 6
The Hidden Floor of Solmere Hotel
Charlotte watched the final seconds of the video again.
Then again.
Then a third time.
But the message never changed.
Her mother's voice.
Her mother's fear.
Her mother's final warning.
"Richard was not alone."
Those words were more terrifying than anything Richard himself had confessed.
Because Richard was an enemy she could see.
An enemy she could fight.
But someone inside the Vale family?
Someone she loved?
Someone who had helped destroy everything her parents built?
That was different.
Charlotte closed the laptop.
The apartment was silent.
Too silent.
Six months ago, she had lost her mother.
Then her company.
Then her identity.
Now she was discovering that the people closest to her had been hiding an entire world from her.
She thought she understood betrayal.
She didn't.
Not yet.
Her phone rang.
Thomas Reed.
"Charlotte."
"I watched the video."
There was silence.
Then Thomas sighed.
"You found it."
"You knew?"
"I suspected."
Charlotte stood.
"Everyone seems to suspect everything except me."
Thomas did not argue.
Because he knew she was right.
"I found something else."
"What?"
"The old Solmere Hotel records."
Charlotte frowned.
"Records?"
"Your mother kept copies of everything."
"Where?"
Thomas lowered his voice.
"Inside the hotel."
Charlotte looked toward the window.
The Solmere Hotel.
The place where everything started.
The place where she was humiliated.
The place where everyone believed she did not belong.
"What records?"
"The ones Richard never found."
An hour later, Charlotte returned to Solmere.
This time, she did not walk in like a victim.
She walked in like someone returning to her own home.
The lobby changed when she entered.
People noticed.
Whispers followed.
Employees moved aside.
But Charlotte ignored them.
She met Thomas near the private elevators.
"You are sure this exists?"
Thomas nodded.
"Your mother told me something before she died."
"What?"
"She said Solmere had a room nobody knew about."
Charlotte looked at him.
"A hidden room?"
"No."
Thomas looked toward the elevator.
"A hidden floor."
The elevator descended.
Not upward.
Charlotte noticed immediately.
"The executive floors are above."
Thomas nodded.
"Exactly."
The elevator stopped.
Floor number:
B7
Charlotte stared.
"There is no basement seven."
Thomas smiled sadly.
"That is why nobody finds it."
The doors opened.
A long hallway stretched before them.
Dark.
Silent.
Forgotten.
The walls were covered with old photographs.
Not hotel advertisements.
Not business records.
Family photographs.
The Vale family.
Charlotte walked slowly.
She saw her father.
Her mother.
Herself as a child.
Then she saw something strange.
A photograph of Alexander Vale standing with Adrian.
But unlike the other pictures...
This one had not been removed.
Someone had hidden it here.
"This place..."
Charlotte whispered.
"What was it?"
Thomas answered quietly.
"Your father's private archive."
They entered the first room.
Inside were hundreds of files.
Boxes.
Hard drives.
Old documents.
Everything Richard had tried to erase.
Charlotte touched one of the boxes.
A label was written on the side.
VALE FAMILY SUCCESSION
Her heart tightened.
She opened it.
Inside were documents about the inheritance.
The same inheritance everyone had been fighting over.
But there was something else.
A handwritten letter from Alexander Vale.
Charlotte recognized the handwriting.
She opened it carefully.
To my children.
Not Charlotte.
Not Adrian.
Children.
The word alone surprised her.
If you are reading this, then I have failed to keep my family safe.
Charlotte continued.
I made many mistakes.
The greatest was believing that money could protect the people I loved.
A pause.
Adrian and Charlotte are both my children.
Charlotte stopped.
Even though she already knew...
Seeing it written by her father made it real.
But being my child does not mean you are entitled to my legacy.
The next sentence made her freeze.
The Solmere Empire was never meant to belong to one heir.
Thomas stepped closer.
"What does that mean?"
Charlotte kept reading.
The true successor must be chosen by the person who understands the purpose of Solmere.
Not money.
Not power.
Purpose.
Charlotte looked at Thomas.
"Then why did Richard steal it?"
Thomas pointed toward another file.
"Because he never found this."
Inside the file was a list.
Names.
Dates.
Votes.
The original board agreement.
Charlotte scanned the document.
Then stopped.
One name appeared.
Richard Ashford.
But beside his name was something unexpected.
A signature.
Not approval.
A warning.
DO NOT TRUST THIS MAN.
Her father's handwriting.
Charlotte felt cold.
Her father had known.
He knew Richard was dangerous.
Then why did he allow him near the company?
A sound interrupted them.
Footsteps.
Someone was walking through the hidden floor.
Thomas immediately closed the file.
"Someone followed us."
Charlotte turned.
The hallway lights flickered.
A figure appeared at the end of the corridor.
Charlotte prepared herself.
But the person did not attack.
They simply stood there.
Then spoke.
"You should have stayed away from this place."
Charlotte recognized the voice.
Victoria.
The woman in white silk.
Charlotte stared.
"You followed us?"
Victoria walked closer.
Her face was different.
No arrogance.
No performance.
Fear.
"I came to stop you."
"Why?"
Victoria looked around the hidden floor.
"Because this is where your mother discovered the truth."
Charlotte's heart raced.
"What truth?"
Victoria looked at Thomas.
Then at Charlotte.
"The truth about who helped Richard."
Silence.
Charlotte stepped forward.
"Tell me."
Victoria hesitated.
Then she said the words Charlotte never expected.
"It was not Adrian."
Charlotte froze.
"Then who?"
Victoria looked directly at her.
"The person who gave Richard access to Solmere..."
A pause.
"The person who changed the inheritance records..."
Another pause.
"The person who convinced your mother she could trust them..."
Charlotte felt her heartbeat quicken.
"Who?"
Victoria whispered:
"Your father's closest friend."
Thomas looked confused.
"My father had many friends."
Victoria shook her head.
"No."
"One person."
She looked at Charlotte.
"The person who raised you after your father died."
Charlotte went still.
Because suddenly...
She understood.
The hidden floor was not hiding a stranger.
It was hiding a betrayal.
A betrayal that had been standing beside her for years.
Then a security alarm suddenly exploded through the underground hallway.
Red lights flashed.
Thomas looked at the entrance.
"Someone activated the emergency lock."
Charlotte turned.
The heavy steel doors began closing.
Someone was trapping them inside.
Victoria looked terrified.
"He knows we're here."
Charlotte stared into the darkness.
"Who?"
A voice came through the speakers.
Calm.
Familiar.
"Charlotte."
Everyone froze.
Richard Ashford.
"I warned you."
The voice continued.
"You can search every corner of Solmere."
A pause.
"But you will never find what your mother hid from you."
The lights went out.
And in the darkness...
Charlotte heard one final sound.
A door opening.
Not outside.
Inside the hidden floor.
May you like
Someone else was already trapped with them.
To be continued...
