Chapter 8

The False Owner

The file remained open on the screen.

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

Because everyone in the hidden floor of Solmere Hotel understood one thing.

Whatever was written inside that document would change Charlotte Vale's entire life.

She stared at the words in front of her.

CHARLOTTE VALE - BIOLOGICAL RECORDS

Her hands were cold.

Her heart was beating too fast.

For years, Charlotte had believed she knew exactly who she was.

The daughter of Alexander and Evelyn Vale.

The only child of the family.

The rightful heir to Solmere.

But her mother's final message had changed everything.

The greatest secret was not the stolen empire.

Not Richard's betrayal.

Not Adrian's return.

It was Charlotte herself.

"Open it."

Charlotte's voice was quiet.

Martin stepped forward.

"No."

Everyone looked at him.

Charlotte slowly turned.

"Why?"

Martin looked desperate.

"Because some truths destroy more than lies."

Charlotte stared at him.

"Funny."

Her voice became colder.

"Everyone around me keeps saying they are protecting me."

"But somehow, every secret they hide destroys my life anyway."

Thomas looked away.

Victoria remained silent.

Charlotte clicked the file.

A digital document appeared.

The first page contained medical information.

Dates.

Records.

Names.

Then she saw it.

The biological father's name.

Her eyes froze.

Alexander Vale.

Charlotte exhaled.

For a second, she thought the secret was nothing.

Then she saw the second line.

Mother: Evelyn Vale.

Still normal.

Then why did everyone look terrified?

She scrolled further.

A hidden note appeared.

CONFIDENTIAL ADDENDUM

The document had been sealed.

A message from Evelyn.

Charlotte opened it.

Charlotte,

If you are reading this, then you finally discovered what I tried to hide.

Her mother's words.

Again.

You are my daughter.

Charlotte almost laughed.

Of course she was.

Then she continued.

But you were not born Charlotte Vale.

The world stopped.

The room disappeared.

Only those words remained.

You were not born Charlotte Vale.

Charlotte stared.

"What does this mean?"

Nobody answered.

She looked at Martin.

"Explain."

Martin closed his eyes.

"When you were born..."

His voice was shaking.

"There was an accident."

"What accident?"

"Your mother gave birth to a daughter."

Charlotte waited.

"And?"

Martin swallowed.

"That child did not survive."

Silence.

Charlotte felt numb.

"No."

"Charlotte..."

"No."

She stepped back.

"My mother..."

Martin continued.

"Years later, Evelyn discovered a child who had been abandoned."

Charlotte looked at him.

"Me?"

He nodded.

"She adopted you."

The words were impossible.

Every memory.

Every birthday.

Every moment with her mother.

Was it fake?

"No."

Charlotte whispered.

"My mother loved me."

Victoria spoke softly.

"She did."

Charlotte looked at her.

"Then why hide this?"

Victoria's eyes filled with sadness.

"Because Evelyn knew what would happen if people discovered you were not her biological daughter."

Adrian's voice came from the doorway.

"They would destroy you."

Everyone turned.

He had entered silently.

Charlotte looked at him.

"You knew?"

Adrian nodded.

"My father told me before he died."

"You knew I wasn't his real daughter?"

"Yes."

Charlotte felt anger rising.

"And you still wanted my inheritance."

Adrian looked at her.

"I wanted what I believed was mine."

A pause.

"But I was wrong about you."

Charlotte looked away.

She did not know what hurt more.

The fact that she was adopted.

Or the fact that everyone knew except her.

Hours later, the hidden floor was no longer a secret.

Charlotte had learned everything.

Evelyn had adopted her when she was a child.

Not because she wanted to replace someone.

Because she loved her.

The little girl Charlotte had been was found after a tragic incident.

A child with no family.

No identity.

No one searching for her.

Evelyn gave her a home.

A name.

A future.

And Alexander accepted her completely.

But they feared the world would not.

Especially Adrian.

Because if the public discovered Charlotte was adopted, Richard would use it.

He would tell everyone:

The heir was not a Vale.

The empire belonged elsewhere.

And he had done exactly that.

But there was one thing Richard did not understand.

He thought inheritance came from blood.

Evelyn believed it came from love.

The next morning, Richard Ashford appeared on every major news channel.

Behind him was the Solmere logo.

The company that belonged to Charlotte.

The company he stole.

"I want to address recent rumors."

Richard spoke calmly.

"Someone has attempted to create confusion regarding the ownership of Solmere."

Charlotte watched from the hidden archive.

"He will attack your identity."

Thomas said.

Charlotte nodded.

"I know."

Richard continued.

"The woman claiming to be Charlotte Vale has no legal connection to the Vale bloodline."

The reporters reacted.

"Are you saying she is not Alexander Vale's daughter?"

Richard smiled.

"I am saying the truth must be investigated."

A lie disguised as concern.

Charlotte understood his strategy.

He did not need to prove she was fake.

He only needed people to doubt.

Within hours, the world exploded.

WHO IS THE REAL VALE HEIR?

SOLMERE OWNERSHIP DISPUTED

MYSTERY SURROUNDS CHARLOTTE VALE'S IDENTITY

Richard had won the first battle.

But he made one mistake.

He underestimated Charlotte.

That afternoon, Charlotte entered the Solmere headquarters.

Not secretly.

Not disguised.

She walked through the front doors.

Reporters surrounded her.

"Are you really Alexander Vale's daughter?"

"Did you hide your adoption?"

"Are you trying to steal Solmere?"

Charlotte stopped.

The entire world waited.

Then she answered.

"No."

The crowd became silent.

"I am not Alexander Vale's biological daughter."

The reporters erupted.

But Charlotte continued.

"And I never claimed to be."

Silence.

"My father and mother chose me."

"They raised me."

"They loved me."

"And they trusted me with Solmere because they believed I understood what this company meant."

She looked directly into the cameras.

"Richard Ashford believes ownership comes from blood."

A pause.

"But my parents taught me something different."

"Legacy is earned."

The crowd became quiet.

Then Charlotte revealed something.

A document.

The original adoption agreement.

Signed by Alexander and Evelyn Vale.

Along with another document.

The true inheritance agreement.

The one Richard never found.

The one that proved Alexander's final decision.

The screen behind her displayed the words:

THE SUCCESSOR OF SOLMERE SHALL BE THE PERSON CHOSEN BY ALEXANDER VALE, REGARDLESS OF BLOOD.

The reporters gasped.

Richard's expression changed.

For the first time...

He looked worried.

Because his entire plan depended on one idea.

That Charlotte was not a Vale.

But Alexander had already predicted that attack.

And he had prepared for it.

That night, Richard stood alone in his office.

Victoria entered.

"You lost."

Richard looked at her.

"No."

He poured himself a drink.

"I lost a battle."

"Not the war."

Victoria stared.

"What are you going to do?"

Richard looked out over the city.

"Remove the only thing standing between me and Solmere."

"Charlotte?"

He smiled.

"No."

A pause.

"Her proof."

Deep inside Solmere Hotel, Charlotte discovered another hidden message from her mother.

One that appeared only after the ownership documents were restored.

The message was short.

Charlotte,

If they discover you are not my blood, they will try to take everything from you.

But remember this:

The person who truly threatens you is not the one who questions your name.

It is the one who knows your name better than anyone.

Charlotte read the message twice.

Then she looked at the signature.

Evelyn Vale.

But something was wrong.

The handwriting was slightly different.

Charlotte noticed immediately.

Because she had spent her entire life reading her mother's letters.

This was not written by Evelyn.

Someone had forged the final message.

Someone wanted her to believe something.

Someone was still controlling the truth.

And then her phone received a message.

Unknown number.

One sentence.

You finally discovered you were not a Vale.

Now discover who you really are.

Charlotte stared at the screen.

Because the biggest secret had not been revealed.

May you like

It had only begun.

To be continued...
