Chapter 10: The Man Torn Between Love and Revenge

Chapter 10: The Man Torn Between Love and Revenge
Alexander had always been a man who knew exactly what he wanted.
That was one of the first things I loved about him.
When he entered a room, people noticed.
Not because he demanded attention.
Because he carried himself like someone who understood his purpose.
He was confident.
Focused.
Certain.
The kind of man who made decisions quickly and never looked back.
But that man no longer existed.
The secrets had taken him apart piece by piece.
And now he stood in the middle of a battlefield where every person he loved had become a possible enemy.
His father.
His mother.
His uncle.
His best friend.
And me.
The woman he was supposed to marry.
The woman who had hidden the truth from him.
I watched him standing by the window after my uncle's warning.
His hands were clenched.
His expression was unreadable.
But I knew.
He was fighting a war inside himself.
A war between the man he had been...
and the man he was becoming.
"Alexander."
He didn't respond.
"Please."
Finally, he turned.
"What did your uncle mean?"
I shook my head.
"I don't know."
"Your uncle knew about your mother's disappearance."
"I think so."
His eyes darkened.
"And you didn't tell me about him?"
The question was fair.
But it still hurt.
"I didn't know he knew."
Alexander looked away.
Another secret.
Another piece missing.
"I don't know who to believe anymore."
The pain in his voice was almost unbearable.
Because I understood.
I had spent years believing my mother was dead.
Then believing Richard was responsible.
Then believing Victoria was my enemy.
Every truth I discovered only created another question.
Richard entered the room.
"We need to leave."
Alexander looked at him.
"Where?"
"Somewhere safe."
A bitter smile appeared on Alexander's face.
"Safe?"
Richard stopped.
"You spent fifteen years deciding what I should know."
His voice became colder.
"And now you want me to trust you?"
Richard's expression tightened.
"I am still your father."
Alexander stepped closer.
"That's exactly why this hurts."
Silence.
"Strangers can betray you."
Alexander whispered.
"But when your own family does it..."
He shook his head.
"You don't know where to put the pain."
For the first time, Richard looked ashamed.
Not angry.
Not defensive.
Ashamed.
An hour later, we were in the private study.
Alexander had gathered everyone.
Everyone who was connected to the mystery.
Richard.
Clara.
The security team.
Even documents from the old Whitmore company.
Except one person.
Victoria.
She was gone.
And nobody knew where.
"We stop chasing pieces of the truth."
Alexander said.
"We find the entire story."
He looked at the documents.
"Someone has been controlling this situation for years."
Clara nodded.
"Your mother believed the same."
Alexander looked at her.
"What did she know?"
Clara hesitated.
"She knew someone close to her was working against her."
"Who?"
"I don't know."
Alexander's expression hardened.
"Everyone keeps saying that."
His voice rose.
"But somehow everyone knows enough to hide something."
Nobody spoke.
He was right.
The room was filled with people who claimed they wanted the truth.
Yet every person had protected their own secrets.
Including me.
Alexander looked at me.
And my heart tightened.
"Emily."
I knew what was coming.
"Tell them everything."
I froze.
"What?"
"No more secrets."
His eyes met mine.
"If we are going to survive this, everyone tells the truth."
The words were directed at everyone.
But especially me.
I nodded.
"I found the first evidence two years ago."
Everyone listened.
"I discovered that Richard's company had moved money through several illegal accounts."
Richard looked down.
"I didn't know the full reason."
I continued.
"I thought exposing him would bring justice for my mother."
Alexander watched me carefully.
"But then I met you."
My voice softened.
"And everything became complicated."
"Because you fell in love with me."
I nodded.
"Yes."
The honesty hurt.
"But I never used you."
Alexander looked away.
"I know."
Those two words surprised me.
"You know?"
He nodded.
"I don't think you ever planned to hurt me."
A pause.
"But you still did."
I lowered my eyes.
"Yes."
That night, Alexander couldn't sleep.
I found him in the old family archive room.
A place filled with decades of Whitmore history.
He was holding an old photograph.
A picture of him as a child.
With his mother.
"She looks happy."
I said softly.
Alexander looked at the photo.
"My mother was the only person in my family who made me feel normal."
I sat beside him.
"What happened?"
His fingers tightened around the picture.
"After she died, my father changed."
"How?"
"He became colder."
He looked at me.
"He stopped trusting everyone."
A sad smile appeared.
"Except himself."
I was quiet.
"Did you love him?"
The question surprised him.
"My father?"
I nodded.
Alexander looked at the photograph.
"Yes."
A pause.
"That's why this hurts."
He put the picture down.
"I don't hate him because he's a monster."
His voice cracked.
"I hate him because part of me still wants him to be my father."
I understood.
Because I felt the same about my mother.
Even after everything.
Even after discovering she had hidden the truth.
A part of me still wanted to be the daughter who believed her mother could do no wrong.
The next morning, Alexander made a decision.
A decision that changed everything.
He called a press conference.
Richard immediately objected.
"You don't know what you're doing."
Alexander looked at him.
"Yes, I do."
"You will destroy this family."
Alexander's expression was calm.
"No."
He shook his head.
"The lies already did that."
The announcement spread quickly.
Alexander Whitmore was going to reveal the truth about the Whitmore empire.
The financial collapse.
The hidden accounts.
The accusations against Emily.
Everything.
The world was about to learn the truth.
But there was one problem.
Someone didn't want the truth revealed.
And they proved it before Alexander could step onto the stage.
Because minutes before the press conference began...
The lights went out.
A scream echoed through the building.
Then the emergency alarms started.
Everyone ran.
I grabbed my stomach instinctively.
"Alexander!"
He reached for my hand.
Then we heard it.
A single gunshot.
The room froze.
When the lights returned...
Someone was lying on the floor.
Blood spreading beneath them.
And standing beside them...
Holding the weapon...
May you like
was Victoria.
