Chapter 2: The Recording That Changed Everything

Chapter 2: The Recording That Changed Everything

The silence after the recording ended was louder than any scream.

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

The Bluetooth speaker sat on the table like a weapon that had already done its damage.

The beautiful bridal suite that had been filled with laughter, flowers, and excitement only minutes ago had transformed into a courtroom.

And I was the person on trial.

My hands trembled as I pushed myself up from the cold marble floor.

Pain shot through my body.

My back hurt.

My stomach tightened.

But the physical pain was nothing compared to the look in Alexander’s eyes.

I had seen anger in him before.

I had seen frustration.

I had even seen disappointment.

But never this.

Never this feeling of betrayal.

The man who once looked at me like I was the safest place in the world was now looking at me like I was the greatest danger.

"Alex..."

My voice broke.

"I can explain."

He stared at me.

For a moment, I thought he would listen.

Because that was who Alexander Whitmore had always been.

He believed in facts.

He believed in fairness.

He believed everyone deserved the chance to speak.

But today was different.

Today, the evidence had arrived before my words.

And sometimes, a lie heard first becomes the truth people choose to believe.

"Explain what?"

His voice was cold.

"The part where you destroyed my father's company?"

I swallowed.

"It's not that simple."

His expression hardened.

"That's exactly what people say when they don't want to admit what they did."

The words cut deeper than I expected.

Victoria stood behind him.

Watching.

Enjoying every second.

I turned toward her.

"You planned this."

She smiled.

A small, satisfied smile.

"I planned for him to know the truth."

"No."

I shook my head.

"This isn't about truth."

My eyes moved around the room.

"The recording. The timing. The fact that you attacked me right before the ceremony..."

My voice trembled.

"You wanted him to hate me."

Victoria's face remained calm.

"I wanted him to see you."

"See me?"

I laughed weakly.

"After everything?"

She stepped closer.

"You fooled everyone."

"No, Victoria."

I looked directly at her.

"You did."

Something flashed in her eyes.

A moment of uncertainty.

Only a moment.

But I saw it.

And I knew.

There was something she wasn't telling me.

Before I could question her, Alexander spoke.

"Enough."

His voice stopped both of us.

He looked at me.

"I need answers."

I nodded.

"I'll tell you everything."

"Did you manipulate my father?"

I hesitated.

That hesitation destroyed something inside him.

Because he noticed.

"Wow."

He whispered.

"You actually have to think about it."

"Alex, please listen—"

"Did you?"

My eyes closed.

The truth had become a weapon.

And every answer hurt someone.

"Yes."

The room went completely silent.

Alexander looked away.

Like he physically couldn't look at me anymore.

Victoria smiled.

But I continued.

"Yes, I was involved."

His eyes returned to mine.

"How long?"

"What?"

"How long were you planning this?"

I shook my head.

"It wasn't like that."

"Then what was it like?"

His voice rose.

"Because from where I'm standing, my fiancée spent two years building a relationship with me while secretly destroying my family."

Tears filled my eyes.

"That isn't what happened."

"Then tell me what happened!"

The pain in his voice was worse than anger.

"I loved you."

The words escaped before I could stop them.

"I still love you."

He laughed bitterly.

"Love?"

He looked at the wedding ring on my finger.

"You were going to marry me today."

"Yes."

"While knowing who I was."

"Yes."

"While knowing what you did to my father."

My silence answered him.

Alexander stepped back.

"I don't know who you are."

Those words broke something inside me.

Because I had spent my entire life afraid of losing people.

And somehow, despite all my efforts...

I had still lost the one person I couldn't imagine living without.

Then suddenly—

A sharp pain tore through my stomach.

I gasped.

My hand immediately went to my belly.

Alexander noticed.

His expression changed.

For a brief second, the anger disappeared.

Concern replaced it.

"Are you okay?"

The question almost made me cry harder.

Because that was the Alexander I knew.

The man who cared.

The man who would put my safety above his own feelings.

But then Victoria spoke.

"Don't let her distract you."

His face changed again.

I looked at her.

"You are unbelievable."

She ignored me.

"She always knows how to make people feel sorry for her."

Something inside me snapped.

"Stop."

My voice was quiet.

But strong.

Everyone looked at me.

I slowly stood.

"Do not pretend you care about justice."

Victoria narrowed her eyes.

"You hurt my family."

"And you hurt me."

I pointed toward my stomach.

"You attacked a pregnant woman."

Her expression flickered.

"I didn't mean—"

"You raised your foot to hit me."

Silence.

Alexander looked at Victoria.

For the first time, suspicion entered his eyes.

"Victoria..."

She looked away.

"I was angry."

"Angry enough to hurt her?"

"I lost control."

Alexander's jaw tightened.

But before he could say anything, the speaker suddenly turned on again.

Everyone froze.

A new recording began.

But this time...

It wasn't my voice.

It was Victoria's.

Her voice.

Clear.

Cold.

"I don't care what happens to her."

My heart stopped.

The room changed.

Alexander looked at the speaker.

The recording continued.

"Once Alexander sees that she's responsible for his father's downfall, he'll never forgive her."

Victoria's face went pale.

"No."

She rushed toward the speaker.

But the audio continued.

"I'll finally have what I deserve."

A pause.

Then another voice.

A man's voice.

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

Victoria answered.

"After everything she took from me? Yes."

Alexander slowly turned toward her.

"Victoria..."

She froze.

The recording had betrayed her.

The same way she had betrayed me.

The color disappeared from her face.

"I can explain."

Alexander stared at her.

"Explain what?"

She opened her mouth.

Nothing came out.

Because now she was the one standing in front of the evidence.

And I realized something.

The recording that destroyed my life...

was never meant to only expose me.

It was a trap.

For all of us.

Someone had recorded Victoria too.

Someone knew exactly what she was planning.

Someone wanted the truth to come out.

But who?

The door suddenly opened.

A man in a dark suit entered.

His face was familiar.

Too familiar.

Alexander looked at him.

And the shock on his face told me everything.

"Father?"

My heart stopped.

Alexander's father.

The man who had supposedly lost everything.

The man whose empire I had destroyed.

The man who had disappeared months ago.

Richard Whitmore was alive.

And he was standing in my bridal suite.

Looking directly at me.

"You finally know the truth, Alexander."

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

"Your fiancée destroyed my company."

A pause.

Then his eyes moved to Victoria.

"But she wasn't the only one."

Victoria stepped back.

Fear replaced arrogance.

Richard smiled.

"Because the person who gave her the information to destroy me..."

He looked directly at Victoria.

"Was you."

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The world tilted.

Because the story I thought I knew had just changed.

Alexander looked between his father and Victoria.

"What are you saying?"

Richard walked further into the room.

"I'm saying..."

His eyes turned toward me.

"Your fiancée was trying to expose me."

May you like

Then he looked at Victoria.

"And your best friend was trying to bury all of us."
