Chapter 10: The Woman Ryan Never Knew

THE MAN WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD

Chapter 10: The Woman Ryan Never Knew

The world had already decided.

That was the most dangerous thing about power.

Not the money.

Not the influence.

Not the control.

The ability to decide what people believed.

And overnight, the world believed Ryan Blackwood was guilty.

Every news channel showed his face.

Every article repeated his name.

Every headline painted him as the final chapter of a corrupt dynasty.

THE FALL OF RYAN BLACKWOOD.

The man who inherited an empire built on secrets.

The man whose signature appeared on billions of dollars in illegal transactions.

The man who was supposed to save the Blackwood name.

Now accused of destroying it.

Ryan sat in the dark office of the Blackwood headquarters.

The building that once belonged to his family.

The building where employees used to stand when he entered.

The building where people called him "Mr. Blackwood" with respect.

Now the halls were empty.

Silent.

Almost abandoned.

A folder sat on his desk.

Inside were copies of the documents.

His signature.

His authorization.

His approval.

Everything pointed to him.

But he knew one thing.

He had never signed them.

Someone had built a perfect trap.

And that someone knew him better than anyone.

A knock came at the door.

He didn't answer.

The door opened anyway.

Emily entered.

She looked tired.

But determined.

"You haven't slept."

Ryan didn't look up.

"Neither have you."

"I wasn't the one whose entire life was destroyed overnight."

Ryan smiled bitterly.

"You helped destroy it."

The words hurt.

But Emily didn't leave.

"I know."

Ryan looked at her.

"I don't understand you."

"Why?"

"Because I don't know when you're lying anymore."

Emily accepted that.

"I deserve that."

A long silence followed.

Then Ryan asked:

"Did you know about the signature?"

Emily shook her head.

"No."

"Did Alexander?"

"No."

"Michael?"

"No."

Ryan leaned back.

"Then someone close to me did this."

Emily looked at him.

"Yes."

"And you know what scares me?"

"What?"

Ryan looked at the city outside.

"I don't know who is close enough."

That evening, Victoria Blackwood requested a meeting.

Ryan almost refused.

Almost.

But something inside him needed answers.

He found her in the old garden behind the mansion.

The same garden where she had taught him how to walk as a child.

The same place where she told him:

"A Blackwood never shows weakness."

Now, for the first time, Ryan saw weakness in her.

She looked older.

Not physically.

Something deeper.

Like a woman who had spent years carrying a war alone.

"You came."

Ryan stopped several feet away.

"Why did you call me?"

Victoria looked at the flowers.

"Because I owe you the truth."

Ryan laughed quietly.

"That's new."

She ignored the comment.

"You think you know me."

"I know enough."

"No."

She looked at him.

"You know the version of me I created."

Ryan said nothing.

Victoria continued.

"You think I am cold."

"Yes."

"You think I only care about power."

"Yes."

"You think I used you."

Ryan's silence answered.

She nodded.

"All true."

The honesty surprised him.

"But incomplete."

Victoria walked to an old bench.

"Sit."

Ryan remained standing.

She smiled sadly.

"You really are your father's son."

"What does that mean?"

"He always refused to trust anyone."

Ryan looked away.

"You made sure he couldn't."

Victoria looked at him.

"Do you want the truth?"

"Yes."

"Even if it destroys what you believe about me?"

"Yes."

She nodded.

"Then listen."

Twenty-five years ago.

Before Ryan was born.

Before the Blackwood empire became untouchable.

Victoria Blackwood was not the woman everyone feared.

She was a young woman who believed her family could change.

She believed power could be used for good.

Then she discovered the truth.

The Blackwood empire was not controlled by Richard.

Not by Arthur.

Not even by the family.

There was another organization.

A hidden group of investors and criminals who controlled companies around the world.

The Blackwoods were only one piece.

When Richard discovered this, he tried to fight them.

He failed.

They threatened everyone he loved.

Especially his future child.

Ryan.

"Your father wanted to destroy everything."

Victoria's voice became softer.

"But he didn't understand."

Ryan looked at her.

"Understand what?"

"Sometimes you cannot fight a monster directly."

She looked at him.

"Sometimes you have to become something worse."

Ryan frowned.

"Are you saying you became a monster to protect me?"

Victoria looked away.

"Yes."

The answer was quiet.

And painful.

Ryan struggled to accept it.

"You manipulated me."

"Yes."

"You lied."

"Yes."

"You controlled my entire life."

Victoria closed her eyes.

"Yes."

"Then how am I supposed to believe you protected me?"

She looked at him.

"Because I was the reason you survived."

Silence.

Ryan stared.

"What?"

Victoria took a small envelope from her coat.

She handed it to him.

Inside was a photograph.

A photograph Ryan had never seen.

It showed him as a child.

Standing beside his mother.

And behind them...

a man watching.

A man Ryan recognized.

Arthur.

But the date was impossible.

Because it was taken after Arthur's official death.

Ryan looked at Victoria.

"What is this?"

"The first time they tried to take you."

Ryan's face changed.

"They?"

"The people behind the Blackwoods."

Victoria continued.

"When you were five years old, Arthur wanted to remove you from the family line."

Ryan froze.

"Why?"

"Because you were unpredictable."

"That makes no sense."

"It does."

She looked at him.

"Arthur believed power should belong only to those willing to sacrifice everything."

Ryan whispered:

"And I wasn't."

"No."

Victoria looked at him.

"You cared."

For years, Victoria had protected Ryan.

Not through kindness.

Not through affection.

Through control.

She isolated him.

Trained him.

Made him ruthless.

Because she believed a soft person could never survive the Blackwood world.

Her biggest mistake was believing she could protect him by turning him into something he wasn't.

Ryan looked at her.

"Why tell me now?"

Victoria's expression changed.

"Because I failed."

"What?"

"I spent twenty-five years protecting you from the enemy."

She looked toward the mansion.

"But I never realized I was teaching the enemy how to use you."

Ryan was silent.

Then he asked:

"Who framed me?"

Victoria looked at him.

"The person who knows you best."

Ryan frowned.

"Arthur?"

"No."

A pause.

"Someone closer."

At that moment, Emily arrived.

She stopped when she saw Victoria and Ryan together.

"What happened?"

Ryan looked at her.

"My mother says someone close to me framed me."

Emily looked serious.

"Who?"

Before Ryan could answer, Victoria spoke.

"Her."

The garden became silent.

Emily froze.

"What?"

Victoria looked directly at her.

"The evidence was planted using information only someone inside Ryan's personal life would know."

Ryan immediately stepped forward.

"No."

Victoria looked at him.

"You want to believe she is innocent."

"Because she is."

"Why?"

Ryan looked at Emily.

And for the first time, he didn't hesitate.

"Because I know her."

Victoria's expression softened.

Almost sadness.

"Do you?"

That night, Ryan found something hidden in Emily's old belongings.

A small black notebook.

He didn't mean to search.

But the notebook fell when he moved her bag.

He opened it.

Inside were notes.

Dates.

Names.

Information about the Blackwood family.

About him.

About his father.

About Alexander.

The first pages were filled with anger.

"Ryan Blackwood is the key."

"Get close to him."

"Earn his trust."

"Destroy the empire from inside."

Ryan's heart sank.

He kept reading.

Until he reached the final page.

A sentence written months after their marriage.

A sentence that changed everything.

"I came here to destroy Ryan Blackwood."

"But I fell in love with him."

Ryan closed the notebook.

He didn't know what hurt more.

The first sentence.

Or the second.

Later that night, Emily found him in the library.

She saw the notebook.

Her face changed.

"Ryan..."

He looked at her.

"How much of this was real?"

Emily couldn't answer.

"Tell me."

Her voice broke.

"All of it."

Ryan looked away.

"Then why?"

"Because I couldn't stop."

"Why?"

Emily walked closer.

"Because every day I planned to hurt you..."

A tear fell.

"...you gave me another reason not to."

Ryan was silent.

Then his phone rang.

Michael.

He answered.

"What?"

Michael's voice sounded urgent.

"Ryan, we found who created the fake documents."

Ryan stood.

"Who?"

A pause.

Then:

"The person who signed them."

Ryan looked confused.

"What are you talking about?"

Michael's voice lowered.

"Ryan..."

"The signature isn't fake."

A cold feeling entered the room.

"The signature is real."

Ryan froze.

"Impossible."

"It is your signature."

Emily looked at him.

Michael continued:

"Because someone copied it from a document you signed years ago."

Ryan whispered:

"Which document?"

The answer came.

And destroyed everything.

"The marriage contract."

Silence.

Emily's face turned pale.

"What?"

Michael continued:

"The person who framed you had access to your private legal documents."

Ryan slowly turned toward Emily.

Because suddenly, one terrifying thought appeared.

Someone had access to everything.

Their marriage.

Their secrets.

Their lives.

Someone who had been watching them from the beginning.

Michael's final words came through the phone:

"Ryan..."

"Your enemy isn't inside the house."

A pause.

May you like

"They're inside your marriage."
